Either you like this cliche, or you absolutely hate it. In a lot of romance stories, the goody goody girl falls in love with a rebellious bad boy. Despite the odds, these two fall in love and have a somehow steady romance. However, the story isn't complete without some bumps in the relationship, a love triangle or two (I'll get to that later), and temporary break ups. Personally I'm a fan of this cliche (I have to be one of the biggest Buffy and Spike shippers out there), but some people absolutely despise it. If you still want to use this cliche in some way, try shaking things up with reforming the bad boy, make the two characters eventually break-up, or have the romance be a side-plot. If you want to avoid this cliche though, just don't use it. Simple as that.
