Possibly one of the most cliche parts of fiction is having the villain be designated to lose to the hero. Their evil schemes never fall through, and the audience will just be waiting for them to lose the battle and possibly die. However, what if for once, the villain actually did succeed in their scheme? Surely it would be a huge shock to the audience, and keep them invested into the story. Of course, some kind of karma should still be given to the villain, as we as an audience want the hero to at least have some justice. Just see the finale of Scream Queens to see what I mean by the villain getting away with it, so the story can be open for more twists and a bigger audience.
