Man is this cliche annoying. Pretty much every villain instead of wanting to take over a government or steal money wants to destroy the world. It really makes no sense considering if the world was destroyed, where would the villain rule? This is very simple logic that a lot of people seem to forget. Oh, and overuse for "dramatic effect" in media. Just being a heartless villain is enough to intimidate an audience, and you don't need to show it further by having them threaten to destroy the world. Just have the villain be a threat in some way that doesn't involve pointless world destroying.
