This cliche just annoys me to death.  Whenever a certain group of characters goes to an exotic location, it is expected the creator of the product these characters are in accurately portray the area in question.  However, for some weird reason, writers seem to be way too lazy to just do a little research and get information about the area wrong.  They can even gets certain parts of a culture messed up as well, and even get languages mixed up.  For example, the use of man man chi in the Total Drama song "A Chinese Lesson"  is used to replace the words, enjoy your meal, which is actually wrong.  The real translation is eat slowly, which is an easy screw up if the creators went the easy way out by using an online translator instead of doing proper research on the Chinese language.  That is a slight example of this trope that really needs to go.  Just doing a little research really never hurt anybody.  It is shown in later seasons that the Total Drama creators learned from this mistake, especially with the Ridonculous Race.  Why can't everyone else?
