Chapter 17: Harper
“Just talk to me. You owe me that much!” Lucia screams, her voice cutting through the cold morning air like a thousand knives.
“Lucia. No.” I say, walking through the rose garden.
“You kissed me three days ago and you haven’t spoken to me since.” She says. “You at least owe me an explanation.”
I turn around abruptly almost knocking her over.
“I owe you nothing.” I say through gritted teeth. “It was a mistake.”
She looks taken aback.
“I have to go. I have to meet with someone.” I say coldly, walking away.
In all honesty I was meeting with Christian. Beth thought it a good idea that we meet weekly until we sort of got used to the brotherhood thing. But little did I know that I had my own personal stalker. When I got to the café off campus, Christian was sitting at a table in the far corner, lazily leaning against the back of his chair. I think a person first seeing Christian and I would have thought maybe we were friends, but definitely not brothers. Christian with his high cheekbones and dark eyes was the exact opposite of me with dirty blonde hair and green eyes. He seems almost magical in a way I can’t quite describe.
“Harper.” He says with a smile when he sees me.
I smile and sit opposite him.
“How are you?” He asks.
I nod and smile. “Fine thanks.”
Christian nods.
“I’m going to get coffee.” I say. “Want anything?”
“Black coffee please.” Christian says.
When I get back to the table with coffee, Christian is sitting, his position unchanged with an amused look painted into his features.
“Something amusing?” I ask, setting his coffee in front of him.
He picks the polystyrene cup up and takes a drink before shrugging.
“Nothing really. Just your little stalker.” He says, nodding towards the window.
I turn to see a flash of blonde hair disappear around the corner. Lucia.
“What did she want?” I ask.
Christian shrugs. “She said she followed you here and asked me to tell you to meet her this afternoon in the meadow.”
I nod.
“Issues?” Christian asks.
I shrug.
“She seems young. How old is she?” He asks.
“Sixteen.” I reply.
Christian nods a bemused look on his face.
“What?” I ask.
“Nothing.” He pauses then speaks again. “What’s life like at the complex?”
“What?” I ask.
“You know. You and Beth and all those other gifted kids live in the complex next to school. You must get a lot of visits from the organization.”
I shake my head. “None. How do you know about the organization?”
Christian shrugs nonchalantly. “I have my ways.”
He clicks his porcelain fingers and his coffee cup flies into the air.
“You’re a telekinetic.” I breathe.”
He nods. “I guess the organization weren’t founded until you became a teenager. They sure as hell weren’t getting me locked up in that complex.”
I nod. “Did Beth tell you?”
He shakes his head. “She didn’t have to. I took the teaching position at Rockwell because I knew you were here. After dad died I needed to find you. I needed to know you were still alive.”
I nod.
“But Beth and I are close. Can you keep a secret?” Christian asks with a mischievous smirk.
I nod slowly. “Of course.”

Sorry that I've neglected this story a little recently. I've been a little busy plus I recently read The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. They're amazing!
Thanks for reading!
