Song: Don't Speak by No Doubt
----------
Chapter 4: Ada
My name is Adelaide Kelley. You’ve already met my best friends Brook and Lucia. You can call me Ada. Everyone does. Well what do you want to know? I’m seventeen years old and I’m a mind reader. Literally. I don’t have a boyfriend. But who really wants one? Phoenix and Nova are the only couple in our class and they’re super uncomfortable to be around! They always talk about how it was love at first sight, which in my eyes is stupid. How can you simply love someone when you first see them? You’re judging them purely on looks which is extremely shallow if you ask me.
Anyways, I’m going out back to practice some levitation. It isn’t my gift but I’ve had a hint of it appearing and Beth says I might just be presenting a late gift. We’ll walk through the rose garden. It’s so beautiful. Lucia loves it here. She says it reminds her of her grandfather. Ok. I’m going to try levitating this can. It’s pretty simple and light but it’ll do for a first try.
“Ada?”
“Hey Vie!”
This is Verona or Vie. She’s twenty one. Her gift is levitation.
“You ok Ada? Having a little luck there?”
“Yup. Things are great.”
“Cool. Call me if you need a hand.”
“Thanks Vie.”
She nods and goes back inside.
She’s a great friend but I can’t stick her when she’s with Flo. They’re like ice cream and pizza. Both are great by themselves. But together they’re toxic.
We must’ve been out here ages! Time flies when you’re having fun right?
“Excuse me?”
Who’s that? Oh crap. It’s a human.
“Brook?”
He thinks I’m Brook. I can escape. Crap. Through the garden is too obvious. He’ll see me and I’ll lead him right to 19864.
Oh no. He’s caught me!
“You’re Brook right?”
I shake my head. I can’t believe this is happening.
“I’m sorry. You’re Adelaide.”
I nod slowly. How does he know me?!
My phone’s ringing! Thank god!
“Hello?”
“Ada. Beth said dinner’s nearly ready.” Vie says.
“Ok Vie. I’ll be in soon.”
I hang up my phone and turn back to the guy.
“I love your ringtone.”
I smile. Don’t Speak by No Doubt. Possibly my favourite song ever.
“Thanks.”
“I’m Damien.” He says.
“Ada.”
“I’ll see you around Ada.”
I nod.
