Chapter 49- Nova

I knew the moment I saw her face I could never give her up. In that moment, she was so beautiful, so perfect I just knew I could never leave her. Phoenix had similar thoughts I think although he didn’t say much. He just hasn’t stopped crying! He’s just cradling Isabelle, his tears falling into her dark hair. He looks up at me and smiles and in that moment, I know that we’ll be okay. I know that my life will be okay and I know that my family will be okay. I’m worried about what’s happening and a part of me wishes I could be with them, fighting. But the part of me that now knows why Beth never really forgot about Tori is the same part of me that knows I’m better here protecting my daughter than I would be there.

                I’m about to comment on how strange the silence is when the door is opened and people spill into the room. My family. They’re all here. Beth rushes straight over to give me a hug and she smiles when Phoenix hands Isabelle to me. She looks down at Isabelle, tears glistening in her eyes.

“Please don’t cry Beth.” I beg. “Phoenix has cried enough tears for everyone.”

Beth laughs and gives Isabelle a kiss. Christian comes to stand behind Beth, looking over her shoulder at Isabelle.

“You’ll have your very own baby before you know it Mr Santiago.” Phoenix says.

Christian laughs. “It’s Christian. I know. I just hope if it’s a girl she’s not like her mother. I could not deal with that.”

“Hey!” Beth says, smacking Christian’s arm.

He smiles and kisses her forehead. I smile and they move out of the way for everyone else to see Isabelle. To my surprise, Dad, Abigail and Tori are the next to see Isabelle.

“She’s beautiful. She’s exactly like you were at that age.” Dad says. “Same beautiful eyes although you were always blonde.”

I smile. “She’s special Daddy.”

He smiles and gives me a hug. “You’re both special.” He then turns to Phoenix. “Welcome to the family Phoenix.”

Phoenix smiles. 

“You take care of my girls okay?”

Phoenix nods and my dad chuckles.

“She’s absolutely beautiful Nova. You’ll be fantastic parents.” Abigail says.

Tori nods. “I think they’ll be the best. Even better than you two.”

I laugh and my dad gives her a hug.

                After everyone has seen Isabelle and congratulated us, the room empties, apart from Beth and Christian.

“Phoenix I forgot to ask you, does she carry either of those genes?” Beth asks.

Phoenix smiles and shakes his head. “She’s completely clear.”

“Aren’t you glad she’s here now?” Beth asks.

Phoenix nods. “I couldn’t think of not having her here.”

Beth smiles. “Now listen. There’s something I have to tell you. I-”

Beth is interrupted by a knock at the door. The nurse pushes the door open and leads in a man and a woman. Both have jet black hair, the woman with green eyes and the man with brown. I instantly recognise the woman’s green eyes. I’ve looked into them so many times. They are exact copies. They are Phoenix’s eyes. These are Phoenix’s parents.

“Um Beth did you organise this?” Phoenix asks.

Beth nods. “This is what I was trying to explain. I think we’ll leave you guys to get better acquainted. I’ll come back later okay?”

I nod. “Thanks Beth.”

Beth nods and drags Christian out of the room with her.

                “So I suppose the obvious question is what are you doing here?” Phoenix asks, sitting down in the chair beside me.

“We’ve been looking for you for years. The address they gave us when you left was wrong. They told us you were in the middle of the Nevada desert somewhere. We’ve been in California all this time. We were trying to find you. We only found you when Elizabeth contacted us. She told us of this situation and encouraged us to try and see you. So we made our way here at once. We never wanted to leave you.” Phoenix’s mother says. 

Phoenix nods, tears glistening in his eyes.

“We’ve wanted to find you since you left.” His dad says.

Phoenix walks towards them, hugging them both. They stay that way for a few minutes before Phoenix comes back to sit by me, motioning for his parents to sit in the two chairs the other side of me.

“So this is Nova. My fiancée.” He says, a hint of pride is his voice. “And this is our daughter Isabelle.”

I smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you both.”

“Nov, this is my mum Jazmine and my dad Will.”

“A pleasure.” Will says, giving me a hug.

I smile. “It’s lovely to finally meet you. Here was me thinking I never would.”

“Well it’s been a quite a shock to us too my dear.” says Jazmine. “Here was us looking for our son only to discover he has a fiancée and a daughter.”

“She’s absolutely beautiful.” Will says, looking at Isabelle fondly.

“Thank you.” Phoenix and I reply at the same time.

“How old is she?” Jazmine asks.

“About two and a half hours now right?” Phoenix asks.

I nod. “Two hours and thirty three minutes old.”

He laughs and kisses my forehead. I look up and see Jazmine and Will both smiling happily. I was wrong before. This is family. For once in my life everything is perfect.
