SIDE STORY D: X's AND O's

****

"When our heart says O but we want to say X, and when our heart says O but we want to answer X--- we hesitate like this because we don't know our own hearts. At times like this, whatever slips of your mouth without thinking is what you really think."

YASSER'S POV

Kailan nga ba?

Kailan nga ba nagsimula ang lahat?

[FLASHBACK]

"And they lived happily ever after, the end."harabeoji said as he finally ended the fairytale that he was reading me. I only scoffed in my bed which my harabeoji likely noticed.

Ano ba iyon?"

I let out a deep sigh before answering my harabeoji's question, "It's not like I don't like the story, harabeoji, it's just that----I don't believe in love."I reluctantly admitted.

People tell me that my mind is too advanced for a seven year old and I don't really care about that. They are too busy minding about what new game is out on the market while I am busy minding about logarithms, formulas and scientific notations.

And the reason I don't believe in love? Because it simply does not exist. I read in books that love is just created by an anatomically reaction by the mind---specifically, the hypothalamus---from an outside force that triggers such and not what these ridiculous fairytales are telling innocent children about. So, why would I believe in it? Even science porves that the word does not exist. Hah!

I shrugged my shoulders, "It doesn't exist, harabeoji. I read in books that it is just a reaction created by the mind and not what those fairytales are talking about. Isa pa po, isn't those fairytales categorized as fiction? As in not real?

"Oh, well then, how about your eomma and appa?"

"Eomma and appa are----I don't know? Different?"hindi siguradong tanong ko.

I suddenly thought about my eomma and appa and how they treat each other---how eomma blushes everytime she hears appa tells her those three words and how appa rushes from his office when he learns that eomma is sick. Is that what they call as "love"?

"Haha!

Love? Isa iyong bagay na mararanasan mo sa tamang panahon at edad."
