Chapter 9- Impressions

Keya Written

Jamal

My alarm on my phone went off , waking me up from my peaceful slumber . My right eye jolted open as I grabbed my phone from underneath my pillow . The time read 6:30 a.m . I sat up straight and stretched to relieve the tiredness from my body . I stared at the floor for a little while to get my thoughts together .

Why am I up again ?

I sighed as the remembrance suddenly came to me . I sent Liberty a text saying get up and be ready within an hour . I looked over my shoulder to see Ronnie's stunning figure through the silk black covers . I got up and went into the bathroom to release my bladder . I then got in the shower for at least fifteen minutes . I proceeded to take care of my hygiene . As I was beginning to dress , I realized Liberty haven't texted me back . I slid my black tshirt over my head and went across the hall to her bedroom .

"Liberty?" I whispered as I crept the door open . She was sitting on the edge of her bed , straightening her hair . I was amazed at the length of it . Her hair was waist length and flowed beautifully .

"Huh?" I can tell that she was concentrating .

"Why are you straightening your hair in the dark?" I furrowed my eyebrows .

"Because I know what I'm doing." She said . I entered into her bedroom and reached for her flat iron . She looks up at me as she straightens a piece of hair . When that piece was straight , she handed it to me . "Don't burn my scalp." She pointed at me .

"I know what I'm doing."

In the midst of straightening the last section of hair , the lights suddenly flicked on . My attention went to Ronnie standing in the doorway with her hands crossed across her chest .

"What are you doing?" She asks with base in her voice .

Isn't it obvious? I thought .

"I'm straightening Liberty's hair." I sighed but not too loud . I wanted to avoid an argument . It's too early for that .

"Why are you dressed?" She walks into the room .

"Liberty and I are going to tell our Mama happy birthday." I informed her . I started to wrap Liberty's hair around the flat iron to create a bouncy curl .

Ronnie stood there with a stern mug on her face . "Early this morning?" She raises an eyebrow .

"She's a morning person . I told you that." I started to feel irritated by her questioning me . She watched me as I put the finishing touches on Liberty's hair .

"Done." I said . I unplugged the cord and laid the straightener on the nightstand . Liberty stood up and shook her hair , running her fingers through it to get the feel of the softness . It's evident that she's nervous about today . I was about to touch it myself but changed my mind when I seen how Ronnie was staring at her hair .

"Does it fit me?" She turns around to ask Ronnie . Liberty isn't use to getting her hair straighten . She likes it puffy and curly .

Ronnie nodded her head , slightly biting her tongue . A weak smile appeared on Liberty's face as she walked out of the room . I huffed and proceeded to follow her but was stopped by Ronnie .
