Dinner with your family

"Shawn, come on! We're gonna be late!" You shout at him as he puts his clothes on. Today was the day where Shawn would be meeting your family for the first time. Your parents decided to have him over for dinner as you two have been dating for 3 months already, but they haven't met him yet.

"I'm coming! Just two more minutes!" He says back as you looked at your watch. This night was supposed to be important and perfect, and showing up late already proves Shawn's punctuality to your parents.

He runs down the stairs dressed up nicely. His hair was styled differently this time and you admired him.

"You look gorgeous!" You say to him as he smiles.

"Thanks, Y/N. Now come on, your family's house is 20 minutes away, right?" He asks and you nod. Soon after, you two were on the road.

The whole time, you can see an anxious look on his face. 

"Shawn, what's the matter?" You ask and he shakes his head no.

"Nothing.. just a little nervous." He replies and you placed a hand on his shoulder.

"They're gonna love you, I promise." You kiss his cheek and he grins.

---AT THE HOUSE---

When you two got to the front door, there was a little poster stuck on it under a sign saying For Shawn Mendes:

There was also a separate paper with Rule #11 under the huge one.

11. You're famous, and that means you're really rich. If my daughter asks you to buy something expensive, you better damn well buy it. I don't care if it's  worth a million dollars, you buy what she tells you to buy and I don't care if you get broke, I'll actually be happy if that happens to you.

Shawn gulped loudly. "Maybe we should go back..." He starts but you pull him back and ring the doorbell. 

Within a few seconds, your mom answers the door.

"Y/N!" She pulls you in for a hug and you two small-talked for a while.

"Mom, this is my boyfriend Shawn."

"Nice to meet you, Mrs Y/L/N." He says politely and offers his hand, but your mom hugs him instead.

"Come inside!" She says to you both and your younger sister immediately fangirls and runs towards Shawn. 

"I love you so much!!"  She squeals, making Shawn laugh.

"Eyes off my boyfriend, sis." You playfully warned her but she hugged him tightly. Shawn hugs back.

"Who loves Shawn now?" She sassed back and you scoffed.

Your younger brother comes down the stairs holding a stuffed toy guitar.

"This is for you, Shawn. Thanks for taking care of Y/N!" He tells him and hands him the guitar.

"Awww, you're so sweet! Thanks so much!" He takes it and pulls him in for a warm hug. 

"Maybe someday you can teach me how to play."

"I'd love to!" 

You smiled at the friendship they were building already.

And then, your dad comes out of the room.

"Hello, Shawn! I'm Y/D/N. It's finally nice to meet you." He says kinda enthusiastically and offers his hand.

"Oh, n-nice to meet you too sir." Shawn stutters and gives your dad a firm handshake.

"No need to call me sir. Just Y/D/N is fine." He replies as Shawn gulps.

"Shawn, is everything okay?" He asks.

"N-nothing sir...I mean Y/D/N." Shawn replies, you can see sweat on his forehead.

"You saw the poster on the door, didn't you?" Your dad smiles as Shawn nods yes.

"Got scared?" 

"Kinda...actually yeah. I'm scared." Shawn admits.

Your dad looks at your younger brother and gives him a high-five.

"Good job Y/B/N! I knew it would work!" Your dad smiles and chuckles. Your brother laughs along.

"Shawn, we were just messing with you! Don't be scared of me, I'm not one of those overly-protective dads. Just treat my daughter right and we'll be good, okay?" He tells him rather politely.

"Oh whew! You had me frightened for a bit. Yes Y/D/N, I promise." Shawn replies and sighs in relief.

"Good lad. Now let's have dinner!" Your dad replies and everyone gathered at the table.

---DINNER TIME---

"So Shawn, when does the next tour begin?" Your mom asked.

"Oh, well in about 4 months...but if it's okay can I take Y/N with me?" Shawn pleads but your younger sister interrupts.

"Can he take me as well!?" She fangirled.

"NO!!" Your mom, dad and younger brother screamed at her at the same time.

"Hi guys! I'm sorry I'm late!" You heard the front door open to find another member of your family come in. It was your older sister.

"Hey Y/S/N! How was your flight?" Your mom greeted her.

"I'm so tired! We got delayed in Los Angeles and diverted to Vancouver." She replies, breathing heavily as she comes in.

"I like your uniform." Shawn says, your older sister was a flight attendant and they just had a uniform change last month.

"Oh my god! You must be Shawn Mendes!" She gets excited a little and shakes his hand. 

"Okay! Y/S/N! Can you get me another glass of water?" Your dad asked.

"Coke for me, please!" Your younger sister asked.

"And a chocolate chip muffin for me!" Your brother blurted out.

"Make it two please!" Shawn added, boy does he love muffins.

"Actually make it three!" You finally requested. Your older sister looked shocked and annoyed.

"Why me!?" Your older sister asked.

"Well, you're the flight attendant. Think of us as your passengers!" Your mom joked and your older sister huffed.

"We're only teasing you! Come, have dinner with us!" Your dad said.

"Actually, Y/D/N I really would like a muffin." Shawn said and all eyes turned to him. 

"Hehe...I mean if it's okay with you." He added.

"Later after dinner, okay?" Your mom smiles and he nodded.

The rest of the night was spent with you guys chatting about life. Your two sisters admired Shawn a little too much but he knows that you are the perfect girl for him.
