♥Nothing Else Mattered In That Moment
I smiled up at his angelic face as I felt the warmth of his body press down to mine and his thumb trail over my lips as his eyes sparked. We lay in the path of our own destruction just an hour before hand. Glass everywhere. Small flames still lite around threatening to ignite at any given moment. Blood covered us both. Scars that would forever imprint our skin. Bruises that were now merely just reminders. Somewhere in the fight, during the heat of the moment, I found all the answers I was looking for. Even in my darkest time, with the gun to the man I loved, I couldn't pull the trigger. I would have found it even easier to turn the gun on myself. As soon as he lowered his gun, I knew there was no way I could fire mine.
I clung to his body as if my life depended on it, and in that moment it felt like it did. The touch of his warm lips trailing down my cheek gave me reassurance that we would somehow find our way out of this mess we created for ourselves. I sighed as I admired his beauty from below, breaking the silence, "Can I ask you a question?" He chuckled in response, "hm," He murmured out only pulling up on his kiss the slightest bit.
"How did you know?" My voice was quiet, almost ashamed.
If it had been anyone else that figured out my little secret of betrayal, I knew it would have been punishable by death. The gang would have killed me in an instant, without a second thought or even glimpse of guilt. However, I was just lucky it had been Jason who knew and even past it all, saved me. To work for an enemy was one of the most deadly things a person could do. Jason somehow found it in him though to forgive me and even when our feelings were so faint, he never once gave me up to Boss or anyone else for that matter.
"I knew since the second you walked out of Micah's office that first day," Jason's eyes danced with amusement.
"How?"
"I can read you like a book."
I rolled my eyes, "Everyone says that."
"Well, you're not a very good liar, Paisley James."
"That too."
The next morning, we both got into our separate cars and drove back to the warehouse-- Home. There were so many things to sort out, and Jason and I had to do it alone considering that if anyone else was let in on our little secret, they would also have to be let in on the fact I betrayed the gang. As result, Jason and I had to defeat Jonathan alone. We had to take out his entire gang with just the two of us. Sure, we were good, but were we good enough to kill hundreds of people?
Jonathan wouldn't just let me go, and I knew that. Not to mention, the creep still had my baby brother held as hostage. We had to get him back unharmed. The thought of anything happening to my baby sent shivers up and down my spine.
We pulled into the end of the long row of cars inside the parking garage, both Jason and I getting out of our own cars and meeting each other in the middle where he snaked his arm sneakily behind the small of my back and led me to the side door of the warehouse. To avoid any questions of where we were last night, we went straight to his room where we both collapsed into the bed in pure exhaustion. I had so many more questions to ask him and so many more things to work out but that would all have to wait for a couple hours. Or at least until I woke up from this deep slumber I was about to admit myself into.
"Jason," My voice was heavy just like my eyes.
"Yes baby?" He cooed into my left ear lobe as he pulled my body to drape over his.
"I love you," I reminded him, not expecting an answer back.
There was a short pause.
"I love you too, Pais."
Butterflies immediately erupted from the pit of my stomach and flew without purpose until I drifted into a deep sleep.
He loved me. Nothing else mattered in that moment.
