Never going to make it

I stood in shock for several endless moments until finally grasping the words from my best friend. She's leaving the country? After everything we have been through, she can just leave that easily? I bowed my head in hopes to find answers, but I was still beyond lost in my own trance. I noticed Haley nudge Beau in the arm with her elbow as if to punish him for telling me such a crucial fact. That fact was that Paisley was actually leaving, and I don't think she planned on coming back. Maybe ever.

My mind was going in a hundred different direction at the speed of light, without showing signs of stopping. I couldn't control the thoughts. I wished I had a switch to turn off the hurt and every reminder of the girl I honestly loved with my life. Yet, here I stood without her. How could I have been so careless and plain stupid? That girl loved me back, something that anyone else would have found impossible to do, and I let it all go? I'm a fucking idiot. My feet made circles on the ground as I paced the room in hopes of coming up with a solution to this big mess I had created for myself. "You realize you gotta go get her, don't ya?" A voice almost made my neck snap as I gazed to the door and found Sam standing there with a similar face to Haley before. Except Sam's was much softer.

I shook my head in return and let my eyes travel back to the ring sitting alone now on my night stand, "She's already gone, Sam." She released a minor laugh from behind me, but not one out of enjoyment, more like out of my stupidity. "Her flight doesn't leave until 4 this afternoon." I glanced to the clock, 2. I had two hours to make everything right. "Come with me," I immediately responded while running around and throwing on a new shirt, new shoes, and new pants over my boxers. Sam shook her head, "You have to do this alone, Jason."

I sighed but only because I knew in the end, she was right. So I just nodded then grabbed the ring from the night stand and shoved it deep inside my left front pocket of my black jeans. Only praying it wouldn't be there by the time I returned, but instead on the hand of the girl I loved. All in the same, that seemed like wishful thinking. I couldn't help but wonder just how badly I fucked up, and I really wouldn't know until I got to talk to Paisley myself.

"You can do it, love." Sam whispered into my ear quietly as she wrapped her arms around me and I did the same for her. "Thanks Sammy," My voice trailed off before coming back in a raspy tone, "For everything." She soon nodded and backed away slowly with a hopeful smile spread across her face. "Good luck, Jason. Bring our girl home." With those words, I escaped out the back door of the warehouse and climbed into the white Bentley in the parking spot with blood red letters reading out, 'McCann'. It just so happened to be the one next to the empty lot, 'James.'

The entire trip there, my eyes continued to switch from the dashboard where the digital time shone, 3, and the road in which I was flying down even more quickly than normal. I was never going to make it.
