There Was Nothing
Jason sat, admiring the injured beauty queen that laid in front of him. His eyes traced over every visible line on her face, and he embraced it all with opened arms. All he wanted was her. He wanted her to wake up. He needed to hear her voice, for her to tell him everything is gonna be okay. He has two babies on the way-- Yes, two. The doctors found out she was having twins, and the sexes of the children remain under wraps considering she hasn't reached her twenty week mark. He loved this girl with everything he had.
Beep. Beep. Beep. The sound of the machine, once again, was the only thing that could be heard apart from his own breathing. Even though the beeping grew to irritate the boy, he found it to also be comforting. It meant she was still with him. Without hesitation, Jason lifted himself from the green chair and bent over to press his lips to Paisley's. His plump lips molded against hers perfectly. He pulled back only slightly to get a better look at the girl, and he noticed he felt no breath coming from the body. With eye furrowed, he leaned back in and once again planted a gentle kiss to the female. Be-bee-beep-be-beep. The beeps began quickening so much that they were soon over lapping and each other, having trouble finishing a single beep before the next would cut it off.
Jason immediately retreated and stepped back to glance over the body from a better view. His heart began to stop as he noticed hers becoming usually fast. He knew that wasn't a good sign. With tears in his eyes, the sound of the door ripping opened caught all his attention. Before he knew it, three nurses and a doctor were storming the room and in the process pushing him backwards through the door way. "You gotta go," One of the ladies clothed in pink continued to repeat to Jason. He tried his best to elbow his way through, anything to keep his eyes locked with the girl he loved. He needed her to be okay.
His breath hitched in the base of his throat as he observed several people looking Paisley over, the doctor calling out demands for the nurses. It all happened so fast, he had no time to react. Usually, his reaction had been on point, but not at a time like this. He had been such a mess since Paisley was put under, he never knew if he was coming or going. Once the nurse finally had him back into the chilling hallway, the door was slammed shut in his face and a small curtain was drawn over the window to hide whatever was going on.
Jason felt the solution fill his eyes as he stared blankly at the door, praying everything would be alright. They said she was gonna wake up any day now, but I bet they weren't expecting this. Paisley. His babies. All their lives were in danger. His world began tearing at the seams right before completely collapsing down around him and leaving him defenseless.
Moments later, there was a loud, final beep. Then the world fell silent. The commotion behind the door stopped all together. There was no more obnoxious beeping, there was nothing.
