My Girl

Ring. Ring. I was still speeding down the expressway when my phone began continuously chiming making my head snap in its direction. I could only see the word "Serena," faintly in the pocket of my North Face jacket in the front passenger seat. My hand flew to the cellular device only because I knew Siri was with Pais. My eyes stayed planted on the road before me as I slide my finger across the bottom of my screen in order to answer the phone. "Jason?" A panicked voice came over the speaker causing me to swerve as reaction and finally straighten back out on the road. There were a few horns blasting behind me, but I didn't care. "Serena?" I asked back and got a pause in return. "Jason!" The voice shrieked again. "Serena, what is it? Where are you? Where is Paisley?" I was now becoming worried. Were they in trouble? I would never forgive myself if Paisley got hurt on my account while running from me.

As if she could sense my emotion, Serena's voice came back, "Jason, Jason calm down! We are fine! You have to come though! You have to come to the airport and stop us from leaving. I can't let her do this, she'll regret it for the rest of her life. She's just a mess, she's not thinking straight." Now she was the one who was freaking out. I couldn't help but chuckle even in a time like this because I found a sick enjoyment in knowing Paisley needed me as much as I needed her. Being the normal calm one I replied in a moderate tone, "Serena, sh. It's okay. I'm already on my way. Where is your flight too just in case I don't make it in time?" There was a scratching and shuffling noise from the other end of the line before she came back, "England." I sighed and clutched the wheel tighter with one hand while rubbing the bridge of my nose with my index finger and thumb, "Keep her off that plane, Serena." My voice was stern. Before she could muster up an excuse I ended the call and threw the phone back io it's original spot in the passenger seat beside me.

"God Dammit!" I shouted at the windshield and hit the steering wheel with force in frustration. The anger in me might have been the only thing keeping me from breaking down at that point. Yes, me, Jason McCann, would break down for a girl. Not just any girl, but my girl. Why was I so fucking stupid?

My feet had never moved so quickly as they did the moment I parked the car in that airport parking lot. I could have been flying and wouldn't have known the difference. My body slid around corners and turns, shifted through bodies and suitcases, passed yelling security, and all in the same, I never once let it slow me because I had my mind set on nothing but Paisley. I needed her, I had to find her. I had to. People continued to give me crazed expressions and rude comments that I would have usually reacted hostile to but not right now.

"Flight to Liverpool, England 118 last call" The lady over the speaker threatened. My eyes traveled the entire place, searching for just one person. I found many people, but not the girl whom I was wanting to find. Minutes passed and my breath quickened, think Jason. The only problem, I wasn't thinking fast enough because it felt like within seconds the voice came back over the intercom, "Flight 118 to Liverpool, England ready for departure. The gates have been closed." The most desperate cry amerced from within me as I made my way to the window and saw a plane traveling down the run way and eventually the wheels were pulled back, and they had left. She has left.

It is gone, it's over.

Or at least I thought it was until an angelic voice echoed from behind me, but she sounded irritated, "Serena, what the fuck! We missed the plane! I thought you said it left at 4:15 not 4!" Serena's voice was now the one that came over the rest, "Paisley, I said I was sorry!" I instantly turned from the window and found myself standing behind the girl I loved. She had her back to me, but Serena could see me clearly. Her eyes traveled to my face and a smile swept over her, I pressed my finger to my lips to tell her not to give any hints I was there. However, it was too late, Paisley looked back and nearly ran into my chest before glancing up and gasping at my presence.

Her eyes were full. I didn't know if they were filled with love, hate, lust, or tears. "J-Jason?" She choked out in obvious shock. I nodded quietly and let a smirk play out on my face, "Come on baby, you didn't think you would get away that easily, did 'ya?"
