You're Working For Him
"Jason McCann, Paisley James, Beau Keys, Haley Jay: Report to Boss' Office. Jason McCann, Paisley James, Beau Keys, Haley Jay." The intercom that hung on every wall of the entire warehouse rung out. The sound making me stiffen as I sat up in my chair behind my desk. "Fantastic," I grumbled while pushing myself from the padded seat and moved out of my small office. Another useless meeting just to bring the team together, we haven't all gone on a mission in months. We're the best ranked team in the gang so in order for any of us to be sent on an assignment, the job had to be pretty big. If it was just some deal or minor trade, Micah would always send less qualified members.
I was sure this was just going to be another meeting with no direction or purpose than to remind us that we were to be working together. During each other these meetings would be one of the few times that things went back to normal between Jason and I. One of the small moments where we acted as if nothing was wrong so we didn't give away any true tension between us. It was all apart of the game I suppose, the game where he constantly kept me on my toes. Behind the scenes though, I was almost positive he was investigating every one of my lies to see what was really up with me since I got captured by Jonathan's gang. He had so much to learn.
As I pranced into Micah's office, I found everyone else already stationed around the large wooden desk, leaving no available chairs. "Took you long enough," Beau chuckled while absent-mindlessly rolling his eyes. I giggled and smacked his bicep, silently telling him to shut up. Jason let out a huff before snaking his arm around my waist and pulling me in harshly to his lap. The sudden movement nearly knocked the breath out of me. I could feel the tension radiating off his body, the tension no one else could even dare to notice. 'It's all apart of the game' I reminded myself, talking my body out of actually enjoying the feeling. I had to do this a lot lately, talk myself out of liking Jason when he held me as if nothing was wrong. Apart of me may still of had these undeniable emotions for Jason, but never would I ever admit that to myself again.
"I have an assignment." Micah's voice was low as if to keep the ordeal just between the few who found themselves around the desk. I could feel Jason's already tense body gain even more of a hardened feel, if that was even possible. Haley diverted her eyes to the window, ignoring the conversation all together. She obviously wasn't interested. Beau's eyes flooded with amusement, becoming intrigued. "You guys have three days to put together a plan in taking down Jonathan's most successful plantation." Plantation meaning weed farm, I knew. My breath hitched at the end of Boss' orders. Just then I knew I gave myself away to Jason. A simple stutter at Jonathan's name gave away everything, I knew this because Jason's eyes went from Mocha to Coal in a matter of seconds.
Right after the meeting was released, I escaped through the hall way and ran for the nearest exit of the warehouse for nothing more than a quick breath of fresh air. I felt as if the walls were closing in on me... and my lies. Right before making my way to the double doors, strong arms slithered around my waist and yanked me into a dark closet. 'So close' I barked to myself before falling into the silent darkness until none other than Jason's voice broke it, "You're working for him." He spat obviously knowing my response. I ducked my head low, no sense in lying anymore. "Let's not deal with this here Jason."
"Meet me at the abandoned house on 44th street, twenty minutes."
