Cadillacs in our dreams
"I don't wanna ride with Jason alone," I huffed as I fell into Haley's bed as she finished packing, we were leaving in just an hour.
"Well, Jason is taking his Ferrari with you and him and Beau and I are taking his lambo."
I complained for a couple more minutes before finally giving in.
Sara, who was helping Haley throw articles of clothing into a bag finally spoke up, "When are you and Jason gonna just get together?"
I leaned up on my elbows just to shoot her a quick glare, "What." My voice was almost raspy.
"We know you like him," Kami nudged me in the side, causing me to also shoot daggers at her.
"Yeah, encase you haven't noticed, you're an AWFUL liar..." Sara laughed.
"So everyone keeps telling me."
"So when are you guys gonna just get it over with?" Kami pushed on.
"Probably never."
"Why? Haley questioned, shuffling through a top drawer, barely being able to reach it.
"He hates me 99% of the time..."
"He's always been like that." Haley sighed.
"Yeah, he's never really been fond of letting people into his life." Sara added before grabbing whatever it was Haley needed from the top and handing it to her. I looked away wishing Jason would just let me in, wishing he wasn't such a stubborn hard ass sometimes. But in reality he is, and I don't know if that is ever going to change.
Haley and I embraced our new friends before making our ways to separate cars. I leaned down into her window to see Beau with one hand on the wheel, smiling up at me. "Do I have to ride with the asshole?" My voice pleaded for one last try. "Sorry girl," Haley giggled and reached out the window to hug me quickly. "Drive safe, idiots." I smirked back before stalking over towards Jason's car and climbing into the passenger seat. "Took you long enough." His voice was bitter, fantastic. This car ride was going to be loads of fun. I wish I could have just stayed here and done work with Sara, Kyle, Laron, Sam, Kami, Micah, Harry, Dalton, or even Damon... anyone but Jason.
The first three hours of the ride, the car was silent. Neither of us knew what to say, but finally the silence was broken by Jason's voice, "Are you hungry?" The sudden interruption made me jump slightly, resulting in a low chuckle from the drive seat. I glanced over to him and nodded, "A little."
"Can I ask you a question, Jason?" My voice was low as I took another french fry and engulfed it. Jason was multitasking, eating while driving, "You just did." If his mouth wasn't full of cheese burger I was sure there would be a smirk. "Why are you so uptight all the time?" I breathed out, regretting the question just as soon as it was out there. There was a small awkward silence then he finally responded quietly, "I just don't trust people, after my brother left I promised myself to never trust another person again. I was torn apart, vulnerable, and I never wanted to be like that again." My heart broke with every word, "It doesn't have to be like this."
"It does."
"Why though?"
"I don't think I could handle another blow like that so I keep myself guarded."
"I would never hurt you Jason."
"I know."
"So let me in."
"I can't."
"Why?"
"I don't know how," He admitted, staring at the road. I looked out the window, this as the first real conversation we had ever had. At least now I knew why Jason had always been so... distant. He had a problem trusting people, and so did I. I was awful at letting people in, but for some reason, I wanted Jason to change that.
"Me neither." I finally breathed.
"Then I guess we'll have to learn together," His voice for one was not confident but relaxed.
His words almost surprised me.
Does this mean he'll start being more real or is he just talking from his ass and nothing is going to change?
The rest of the car ride we talked about stupid things, things that didn't matter and maybe we were gonna forget but I didn't care, anything was better than the cold silence.
'We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams,' I sang quietly along with Lorde's song on the radio..
Jason voice broke the beautiful voice, "That is quite possibly the gayest song I've ever heard."
I glared to him, "Shut up."
He chuckled and put his hands up in surrender.
"How much long anyways?" I sighed.
He stared down at his phone as if to check for messages from someone important, "10 minutes till we get to the hotel." His finger scrolled along a message, "Beau said you and I are going to have to share a room, because him and Haley want to 'Get it on'" He put air quotes around 'Get it on' as if to directly say what Beau had sent him. I shuttered at the image in my bed. No big deal, not like Jason and I hadn't shared a bed before.
By the time we had gotten there though, the boys weren't ready to go to bed, they wanted to stay up to review the plan once more. Haley and I of course complained we needed beauty sleep. "You're beautiful enough," Beau directed towards Haley who just smiled carelessly. Jason rolled his eyes and continued to stare down at the map of the new warehouse as if in deep thought, "So Haley and Paisley will go in through this back entrance," His finger motioned towards the back of the building on the map. "I'll go through here." His finger moved to the side door. "And Beau you are gonna go in this door," He finally stopped at a basement opening.
"What do we do once we are in?" I asked, half asleep. "Take out any wanders." His voice was dark, along with his eyes. When he talked business it was like he was a completely different person. I figured asking anymore questiones would bother him so I just nodded, "Can we go to bed now?"
