Changed Everything

That was it. Those were the words she had been waiting, but not wanting to hear. She dreaded how the continued to play and replay again in her mind like a broken record. He didn't love her. It was like the worst scene of a movie, so bad that no one can put an end to it. It broke her, tearing piece of her heart she had never even known to be there. This changed everything.

"He doesn't love me!" Paisley choked out to her best friend as they were both spread mindlessly across the bed in the most unorganized of ways. Serena's face was taken over with shock as her mouth hung low, "What are you even talking about, Pay?" Paisley shook her head until facing down and letting herself become consumed in her emotions, "He told me point blank, he doesn't love me, Siri." Serena took a hard glare at her best friend as she tried her best to process the words that just escaped her lips. That seemed nearly impossible. Paisley and Jason had been the most perfect couple a week and a half ago. The couple everyone envied. Now this? Sympathy and anger fled through the girl as she watched her best friend sulk into her bed. "It'll be okay," She tried her best in comforting the heaving body, and rubbing her hand on the back of the figure lightly, whispering postive thoughts, all which only got loud sobs in return.

Paisley soon leaned up from the bed and wiped the black rivers that were evidence of the tears that once streamed, she stared to her best friend and let out a quiet, dry laugh, "You must think I'm such a little bitch, I'm sorry I'm crying." Serena became apallad by Paisley's apology and soon glared down to the girl, "Don't you dare apologize for something like that. Cry if it helps, cry you eyes out dammit." Paisley shook her head and pushed off the bed, "I'm done crying, I wanna leave."

"Leave?" Siri attempted to think through the words, then her face was drowned in confusion as she cocked her head to the side, "We can't leave, we're not allowed to." Serena was referring to the rule being in the gang and once your in, there's no way out. Paisley shook her head refusing to believe there was no possible way. She would get away, she couldn't bear to see the man she almost once married every day for the rest of her life. Especially if he ever found a new girl.

The thought choked her up once more, if Jason ever found someone knew, Paisley didn't know what she would do or how she would react. She could only think for her self in that moment, she had to do what was best for her, and as of right now, she concluded that what was best was leaving. "Are you coming with me or not?" The girl became suddenly annoyed as she made her way from Serena's dorm room.

- Paisley's Point of view

This was it. I was all packed up and ready to head out, only I had one more thing to get done.

The knob turned as I made my way into the room I had spent so many nights it. I took a moment to take in my surroundings, but stopped just as quickly when my eyes feasted upon the passed out body spread across the bed. God, he looked like a mess. He reaked of alcohol, his usually perfect hair was sprawled in all different directions, and he was breathing more heavily than normal. This was the man I once loved, no I still loved, but the man who didn't love me back. Not anymore. He threw himself so deeply into work that he forgot about the life outside. The fact our entire story came down to this tragic ending was truly heart breaking. We never meant nor wanted it to end like this. It just kind of happened.

After several moments of reflecting on the past, I shuffled to the side of the bed. My body bent at the waist enough to allow me to press my lips softly to his temple and run my fingers across the side of his face to take in his beauty one last time. Once I stood, I could no longer deny the tears springing from my eyes. It was hitting me like a brick of rocks. I felt like I was running, got smashed by a train, then got up and continued running. There was no running from this pain, however, this pain would last the rest of my life. My life without Jason McCann.

A distant sigh came from the door, I turned to see Serena standing in the door way and blocking a portion of the light with her some what tall figure. I nodded and turned back to the man, wiping my eyes. As I sat there I remembered one very important fact, so I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote a note I assumed he would wake to in the morning.

I left it on the night stand,

along with the stunning ring I pulled from my own hand.

The next morning, Jason woke from a rough night of tossing and turning, not only that, but he had a dream. Not a dream, more like a nightmare. He visioned the most perfect girl leaving him. That girl was Paisley, and only when he found the note along with the ring on his nightstand did he realize it hadn't been a dream at all. The most perfect girl had left him.

Jason McCann,

I didn't know how to address you, so I suppose that will work. I'm sorry, sorry I couldn't be that girl you once loved anymore. I don't know what I did, but it must have been horrible. For someone so amazing to treat me like that, I must have commited the worst of worst crimes. I'm sorry for whatever that was.

I'm leaving, Jase. This life isn't for me anymore. I thought I had a place with you, but things change. People change. I realized the only way for the both of us to ever be happy, is to be on our own. I love you, Jesus, I love you more than I would have ever thought possible. After last night, it's clear you don't feel the same. Don't come looking for me. I don't want to be found.

xx. Pais.

Instantly after reading those words in her beautiful hand writing, Jason's eyes fell on the ring sitting alone on the top of his bedside table. His heart dropped, she was really gone. In frustration, his hand reached up to slid down his face and whip away the invisible anger her felt towards himself. Flashbacks of the last week and a half flooded through his mind.

It started with, "Paisley, I'm too busy."

Ending with, "I don't love her."

Of course, he lied. Anyone could have told her that, but in the heat of the moment, Paisley was left with nothing more than to believe Jason due to the hatred in his voice. He sighed and thought back to the night before, the worst of nights. He knew he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't go get the only girl he could ever love, but then again.. She stated clearly that she didn't want to be found. Never the less, he was Jason McCann and he didn't listen to anybody.
