What If

"Jason, we have to tell them, they will understand! They're our friends!" I tried to reason with the stubborn boy once more, but still found it to be no use. "Baby," My voice trailed off so badly it was almost inaudible, "Even somewhere buried deep within that big ego of yours, you can see just as well as I can that we can't beat Jonathan alone." He came back to face me with a surprising new appearance, eyes black as coal instead of their usual mocha tint, "No, Paisley! It's you who doesn't understand," His voice was harsh as if he was punishing me, "You don't know what they could do to you, you betrayed the gang. An act that is punishable by death around here. If we ask for their help, they will want to know the whole story. Quite frankly, that's not something I'm willing to risk." I squinted my eyes shut until my mind mustered up a solution. Finally when my eyes popped back opened I spoke again, "What if they don't?" He looked confused so I continued without permission, "What if they don't need to know I betrayed the gang, we could just tell them that Jonathan kidnapped Branson." The thought of my baby brother still with that monster made my blood boil.
There was a short pause as Jason thought over my proposition, by the time he found more words, his voice was low and his face written in pain, "Paisley, I don't want to lose you." My head shook vigorously as I walked closer and stretched out my hand to thumb over his cheek softly in a comforting manner, "It's okay, I'm right here. I'll always be right here." Jason, who is not very good with emotional situations, stood up straight and wiped the invisible frustration off his face with his left hand before nodding, "Alright, fine." I raised my eye brows because the surprise of him actually giving into me sank in, "What?"
"I said alright," His voice was low once more, "You win."
By this time I had heard him perfectly clear, I just liked hearing those words so I leaned in a little closer as I whispered tauntingly, "What was that again, Jase?" He rolled his eyes before pushing me to the side and making his way to the door that lead out into the hallway, "Shut up James." I smirked, satisfied.

"Taking down Jonathan, eh?" Beau's voice came across as thrilled. I nodded, anxious for their reaction to the idea of actually taking down the enemy gang. "You know I'd do anything for you, Pay." Haley's voice finally rang out causing a smile to form across my face as I mouthed out a quick 'Thank-you'. Jason let out an awkward cough as if to tell Haley she was forgetting someone. She caught on and rolled her eyes until they landed on Jason, "And of course you too goofball." He smiled proudly. "Then it's set," Beau began, "I'll start on the blue prints of Jonathan's warehouse tonight and we will leave in two days."
"I'll gather the ammunition and create a bomb," Jason piped in.
My body became relaxed, knowing my friends had my back. There was a lump in my throat because no matter how confident we seemed, there was always that 'what-if' feeling. For example, what if something happened to one of them and then I would forever blame myself. Shock flooded my veins as I stared into open space, what if something happened to Jason. How would I even live with myself?

-
"Baaabe," I cooed, letting myself into Jason's office without knocking. Not knocking has been becoming a habit now. Jason used to scold me for it but now it was as if he didn't really mind. His eyes traveled up from the work on his desk and the computer that was set up before him. "You've been working on whatever that is for hours, come to bed." I attempted to pull him away from the desk by tugging on his right arm, the one closest to me, but I soon felt an over powering resistance. "I'm working, Pais." Once he said this my eyes traveled to the computer screen where I saw several packs of ammunition with a bunch of prices underneath every pack. "What are you doing?" I scoffed.
"Ordering in a new shipment."
"Well, that can wait."
"Not if you want it here within two days."
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, but come to bed soon okay?"
He reached up in the chair to give me a quick peck before turning back to the screen and pressing on the key board a few more times. I finally left and drug myself back to the bed where I collapsed and would lay for the rest of the night.
