Chapter 6
A faint buzzing noise wakes me up. I grab my phone off the table and see a message from Calum. My day with him yesterday was really fun. I open up my messages and see:
*Hey Char :) Me and my friends are having a small get together at our rental house tonight. See you there, yeah? *
After reading the message I quickly reply.
*I’d love to! :) What time should I be there?*
It wans’t long until I hear a buzzing noise again.
*6 o’clock. See you then. xx *
I can’t believe it, actually made a friend here. Maybe I can meet some other people at the party tonight. I hope it will be fun, not like the parties back at home. They were always filled with drugs and alcohol, but I don’t expect this from Calum. But you never know, I’ve only known him for a day. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see, and if it is a bad party I’ll just come back to the dorm and finish a TV series or something. Oh god, I don’t have anything to wear. I rummage through my draws looking for something that would at least fit the occasion but nothing pops out. Time for a bit of shopping.
I walk out of the dorms and over to my car in its designated spot, number 78, it is surprisingly closer than I thought. After driving for a minute I finally find the Target, might as well shop for some other things while I’m here. After at least an hour of annoying hipsters, crying babies, and overpriced everything I am finally ready to check out. I end up buying ripped jean shorts, a white crop top with a cartoon cat, a black beanie, and some knock off black “vans” for the party. I also get a small lamp for my dorm, The Perks Of Being a Wallflower novel, some food, some new black nail polish, a set of plates, cups, and silverware, and a new container of liquid eyeliner. I think this all the food should last me about a week, but I don’t know how much money I will have left. I should be okay since my mother is sending me a weekly allowance. But I better start a bank account soon.
I pay the cashier and walk all the stuff to the car. I manage fitting everything in the small trunk but it was a tight squeeze. I drive back to the dorm and place everything on the bed, by the time I am back it is already 3. I better start getting ready. I take a shower and wash my hair, then after that dry It and make sure it has a little bit of waviness to it. I then slide on my new shorts and the crop top. After that I apply a bit of make-up, using the new eyeliner to give my eyes the cat effect. I try so hard to make it as gorgeous as Nina Nesbitt does it but it doesn’t look nearly as good. But hey it’s the effort that counts. I put on the beanie and shoes and look at myself in the mirror. I actually look how I want to for once, if my mom saw me in this she would never let me out of the house. It’s weird to think that she isn’t here to tell me what’s right and what’s wrong, I love it.
I am all ready to go until I realize I don’t even know where I’m going. I check my phone and see a new text from Calum. He also realized he didn’t give me the address so he sent it. Im glad he did because I was afraid he wasn’t going to answer if I tried to ask him. The party isn’t that far from the dorm and I could use the exercise so I decide to walk. After walking about 5 blocks I finally arrive, It looks really packed in there. There is girl outside crying while on the phone, something must have happened with her boyfriend, something like this always happens at parties.
I make my way up the front walk and into the house. It is packed wall to wall and the music is extremely loud, which is fine with me because whoever picked the music has good taste. I wander around looking for a familiar face when I feel a light tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see a pair of deep brown eyes staring back at me.
“Calum!” I exclaim before he embraces me in a hug.
“I was starting to get worried! I thought you weren’t gonna show up!” He says kind of yelling over the music.
“It’s probably because I walked here and it took me a couple minutes!” I reply
“Do you want a drink?” he asks.
“Oh, I don’t drink alcohol.” I reply over the music.
“I have some sprites in the garage. Wanna go get one?” He suggests.
“Yeah, that’d be nice.” I say.
He takes my hand and leads me through the beautifully large house. We walk through a door into the cold garage. You can barely hear the music in this concrete room. Calum lets go of my hand and walks over to the small fridge and grabs a sprite.
“Here you go” He says while smiling and handing me the drink. “I know how you are about drinking. I see what it does to people so I don’t really like it either.”
“I’m glad someone understands me for once.” I say with a smile.
“Ready to go back in?” He asks.
“I guess.” I hesitantly reply.
“It’s gonna be okay. There’s nothing to worry about.” He reassures me while staring into my eyes. “Let me introduce you to my bandmates”
“Oh so you’re in a band?” I ask with curiosity.
“Yeah, we’re called 5 Seconds of Summer” He replies with a huge grin on his face. I can tell how much passion he puts into this, I know that look. The look people get when they talk about their favorite thing on this earth. I have never gotten that look myself though.
“We’ll I’d love to hear you play sometime.” I say. Calum smiles and grabs my hand again and leads me throughout the house. It takes him a minute to find his bandmates but he finally sees them sitting on a couch in the far corner.
“So Char, this is Luke, that’s Ashton, and you know Lauren of course.” He says with a bit of hatred. “And the one that looks like a Smurf is Michael. Everyone, this is Charlotte.” He finishes.
“Hello” Luke says giving me a smile and a small wave. He has a small lip ring that I find extremely attractive.
“Hi!!!” Ashton screams rather loudly which causes him to get a death stare from Lauren.
“Hey.” Michael says plainly. Well isn’t he just Mr. Sunshine over here.
“Hello everyone, it’s really nice to meet you” I say giving each of them a smile. Except for Michael, if he isn’t gonna be kind to me I’m not going to be nice to him.
I tap Calum on the shoulder then pull him closer to whisper in his ear.
“Is there a bathroom here?” I ask so only he can hear.
“No, you have to go in the yard.” He says before laughing. “I’m just kidding. Up the stairs, first door on the right.”
“Thanks Cal” I say with a giggle before leaving him with his friends.
I step over someone who has passed out on the floor before making my way up the stairs. I find the bathroom and lock the door. The only reason I came in here was so I could be alone for a minute.
I check my phone, not that anyone is calling or texting me, but it is only 7:50 and I already want to leave. But I need to make some friends here so I walk back downstairs to the couch but no familiar faces are there. I spot Lauren’s bright lavender hair on the other side of the kitchen but decide against talking to her, and I assume Ashton is there with her. Since no one is on the couch I decide to sit down. The next thing I know someone plops down next to me. It is someone that I have never seen before, he has brown hair and he reeks of alcohol. Alright that’s it, I’m done with this party.I stand up from the couch leaving the intoxicated freak behind me. I push my way through the party until I find the front door. I walk past a couple making out right outside the door. I sit on the curb so I can get a bit of air before I have a major panic attack. Then I hear a voice behind me.
“Why are you out here all by yourself, sweetheart?” Oh god, another drunk guy. I turn around to see the boy with blue hair. Michael. The street light was shining down on him making his hair look brighter than it already was.
“Parties aren’t really my kind of thing” I reply while looking away. He walks over in front of me blocking my view of the street.
“Do you wanna get out of here and go for a walk?” He asks while looking deeply into my eyes.
“That would be nice.” I reply while he helps me up from the curb. This should be interesting.
