Chapter 43

“So, this is the register, I mean, It’s pretty simple. You just scan the item, type in the amount of money that they give you, then you give them the change that shows up on the screen.” James says, pointing towards certain buttons. “and the store is organized into sections, first it is the format of the music, then it is in alphabetical order from there. So it’s pretty easy to find what you’re looking for”

“Speaking of,” He says, while walking into the inventory room, “Here are some things that need to go on display, do you think you can do that?”

“Yeah, sure” I say walking taking the box from his hand, it is filled with all different things, but mostly just CDs. I walk down each isle, carefully placing the music in their spot along the way.

“Charlotte, right?” James yells from the small office.

“Yeah!” I yell back as I place the Adele vinyl in its correct spot.

I hear some footsteps, and when I look over James has appeared right next to me.

“Here” He says, handing me a small piece of plastic. I examine it, it has CHARLOTTE written in sloppy, yet nice handwriting.

“Thanks” I say, pinning it on my hoodie.

“No problem,” he says before taking a stack of CDs and beginning to stack them along with me.

“So, are you going to school around here?” He asks from somewhere behind me.

“Uh, yeah. I go to the University of California,” I answer, “What about you?”

“Dropped out,” He states plainly, “I just didn’t really fit in there, yanno?”

“Yeah, I totally understand” I sigh.

“Do you not have many friends there?” He asks nosily.

“I have a few, but I am having some issues”

“Oh, I see” He confirms, “What kind of issues?”

“The kind of problem where your drunk best friend kisses you, and you feel too guilty to not tell your boyfriend, so now him and all of his friends are mad at you” I explain while moving down the aisle.

“Oh, those kinds are the worst” He groans like a teenage girl, making me laugh.

“So, music is kind of your thing?” He asks.

“I mean, it’s a bit of an addiction” I dryly laugh, when I look over James is standing right there with a smile on his face.

That was the first time he has actually smiled, his teeth were basically perfect, making his smile contagious, so I smile along with him.

“You can say that again” he jokes, before taking the small stack of 45’s.

We continue to stack and or organize the albums for about an hour, then James flips the sign from Open to Closed.

“There is a gap between shifts,” He explains before heading to the office to retriever his things. I grab my jacket off the small chair, and follow him out the door.

“Be here tomorrow at the same time, and then we’ll discuss your weekday shifts” he says quickly before giving me an awkward wave and walking the opposite direction.

I am actually kind of excited to work at Vibe, because it all has to do with something I love, music. Hopefully I will get a discount, because that would make it even more of a winning situation. So, all in all, I have made today a pretty okay one.
