Chapter 38

I vomit all over the toilet. I grab all of my hair in my hand and hold it back away from my face. I can hear the boys rummaging around and freaking out in the living room.

“Who isn’t freaked out by people throwing up?” Ashton screams.

“I’ll get her” Luke says calmly, in a few seconds I hear a knock on the door. Before I can answer Luke walks in and immediately turns around.

“Nope, nope. Can’t deal” he says nervously retreating down the hall.

“Michael go deal with your sick girlfriend!” Calum prods.

“Fine” Michael moans and I hear footsteps come down the hall.

“Charlie?” He asks pushing the door open. “Shit” He says covering his nose with his sleeve.

“You okay?” he asks with his hand muffling his voice.

“Do I look okay to you?” I groan slumping against the wall.

“Well, not particularly okay.” He admits looking down the hall.

“I knew you we’re looking sick.” Calum says as he comes in the door and brings me a cup of water.

“Thanks,” I say taking the cup and drinking it all. “It’s probably just food poisoning or something”

I pull myself off the floor and immediately feel light headed so I lean against the counter for support.

“Want me to drive you to your dorm?” Michael asks sympathetically.

“Yes please” I nod and wipe the tears off of my eyes.

“Come on” He says wrapping an arm around me so I have some support. We walk out into the living room and all eyes are on me.

“Ash, can you call the cleaning lady?” Michael asks as he grabs his keys off the table.

“Yeah sure,” He says before walking into the kitchen. Michael helps me outside, it is pretty dark out now because it is 9:15.

Michael helps me get situated in the passenger seat and buckles me in. He quickly jogs around the car and climbs into his seat.

“You sure you’re okay?” He asks, he is really jittery.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t be too worried.” I shrug.

“Alright, well if you need me to pull over just say so” He says while quickly driving in the direction of the school. Michael is tapping his fingers nervously on the steering wheel.

“Michael, calm down. I’m fine, okay?” I say in the most soothing voice as possible.

“Yeah, okay” He loosens his grip.

When he pulls into the parking lot he quickly runs around the car and helps me out. I am still a bit dizzy so there are some black spots when I stand up. He supports me all the way to my room, I get the door unlocked and immediately fall into my bed. Michael just stands awkwardly in front of the door.  I think Lauren has officially moved out because her side of the room now consists of only the standard bed and desk. That makes my mood a bit better, mostly because I won’t be bothering anyone with my sickness. I slowly pull myself up from the bed and walk over to my dresser. I rummage through the top draw looking for my favorite pajamas. They are extremely fluffy and they have cats on them.

“I’m going to change. Don’t look” I say before sliding off my pants, my sweatshirt falls down covering me up. After getting the pants on, I slowly pull the sweatshirt over my head and throw it in the pile of other clothes. I glance in the mirror and look at myself. I look totally different than when I arrived here. I have lost some weight and my hair is a completely different color.

“Michael?” I say as I sort through another drawer looking for a t-shirt to wear. I decide on one of my dad’s old band t-shirts, I always wear it when I’m sick.

“Huh?” He replies.

“You know I can see you looking at me through the mirror right?” I smirk.

“Uh, um. Sorry” He stutters before coughing and turning around.

Once I get the shirt on I shuffle back over to my bed, laying back down in it. Michael walks over to me and pulls the blanket over top of me.

“I’m going to go get you a bottle of water” he smiles before leaving the room.

I pull the blanket over my face, shielding me from the light. I listen carefully to the people in the rooms around me. The person above me is rolling around in their office chair, the person to the left is blasting music that I can faintly hear through the thick walls, and the person on the right is silent. I hear the door open so I pull the blanket down from my face. But it wasn’t Michael standing in the doorway.

“Uhm hello” I say to the short, skinny brunette that has a very confused look on her face.

“Are you Charlotte?” She asks walking in the room a little bit.

“Yes, and you might be?” I ask.

“Uhm, I’m Emma and I am going to be your new roommate.” She smiles.

“Oh, hi Emma.” I say while sitting up. “I didn’t know when you would be arriving. Sorry about my appearance, this isn’t the best first impression” I nervously laugh.

“It’s fine, I’m not moving in until next week, I am just here to visit with my parents.” She explains, “Sorry I’m here so late, I was just really eager to see my new temporary home.”

“Oh, It’s totally okay” I smile. “I’m looking forward to rooming with you”

“Same to you” She says looking around the small room. “Well it was nice-“

She starts but Michael coming in the door interrupts her.

“Oh, hello” He greets her with a jumbled look on his face.

“Michael, this is Emma my new roommate.” I greet them, “and Emma, this is my boyfriend Michael.”

“Hi” she says awkwardly looking at the floor. “He’s Australian?”

“Yeah” I chuckle.

Michael walks over to me and sets the bottle of water on my side table, before sitting on the edge of my bed and rubbing my back.

“Charlotte isn’t feeling too well” He informs her with a pout.

“Aw, I’m sorry” she says awkwardly, “Well I better get going, my dad is probably wondering where I am.”

“It was nice to finally meet you” I smile as she waves before walking out of the dorm.

“She seems nice” Michael says before standing up from the bed and picking up some of the dirty clothes and trash off the floor.

“Nicer than Lauren at least.” I say before putting my face in my pillow, it smells like fresh laundry detergent.

“I think I’m gonna go…” Michael trails.

“It’s okay, because if I’m sick I don’t want to get you sick too” I mumble, turning towards him.

“Feel better okay?” He says before leaving a kiss on the top of my head.

I nod in response, watching him walk out of the dorm before immediately falling into a deep slumber.
