Chapter 19
I hear the sound of my alarm blast through the room, I open my eyes and squint at the light coming in from the window. My first day of classes, great. I can already tell this is going to go horribly, just like everything else. I look over to Lauren’s bed, there is no sign of her anywhere, she must have an early morning class. I stand up a stare around for a minute not knowing what to do because I’m not fully awake yet. Once I take in my surroundings I finally get the energy to walk over to the closet. I grab my regular skinny jeans and plain blue t-shirt with a black tank top, I also pull out my all black Vans. Once I’m dressed, not taking a shower because I took one the night before, I shove all of my needed books int my bag.
My first class of the day is philosophy, since it was the first day it was basically all boring stuff about what we’re doing this year, so it was a drag. Once it was over I had American Literature, we received a book that we have to read and write a report on by the end of the first semester, which should take me about a week. After that was lunch, I sat in the cafeteria by myself, I didn’t really mind though. My next and final class of the day was the one I was the most excited for, Creative Writing Class. I had always admired the work of authors and always have had a dream of becoming one myself, but it wouldn’t go well. So I just decided to take creative writing to fill the void.
I walk into the classroom, it is kind of small and filled with about 20 desks, this was a very exclusive class. I look around and I spot a familiar hair style in the middle of the room, Leo. A smile forms on my face because it is finally someone I know, I quickly take the seat next to him before anyone else can. I guess my clumsy movement caught his attention because he turned around right away.
“Charlotte!” He exclaims with a huge grin on his face.
“Hi Leo,” I say back, returning the smile.
“I didn’t know you were into writing.” He says.
“Well I came here to major in literary arts so I figured this class would be helpful” I explain.
“Well that’s a great major, I am here mostly for history stuff, but this seemed interesting.”
“That’s really cool, Leo” I smile.
An older man with a grey beard and grey hair comes and takes a seat in the front of the room, causing everyone to quiet down.
“Hello class, I am Professor Johnson. Welcome to Creative Writing.” He says, “I want you all to pick a partner because you are going to start a project that is due on Monday” He explains. “Well go ahead.”
Me and Leo automatically look at each other, confirming our partnership.
“Let’s make a pact, any time there is a partner project in this class, we will partner up.” He suggests.
“Deal” I reply with a smile before shaking his hand and turning back to the front of the class.
“I assume you all have your partners, your project is to write a short story, it can be about any topic that you wish, I want to see what skills you have.” He says. “Now go on, get out of here and get started.
“Wanna go to my apartment and get started?” Leo asks.
“Yeah, sure.” I answer, I dont have anything better to do.
We walk out of the building and to the parking lot where his car is parked. It is a beat up little red car, there is a band-aid on a little dent, it is a really good joke actually.
“Your limo awaits” He jokes.
“Well let’s get going then” I say before getting into the passenger’s seat. I watch as Leo walks around the car and gets into the driver’s seat. He starts the car and turns the radio on before driving off of the campus. It only took about 10 minutes to get to his small apartment. We make our way up the outdoor steps to his door, when we get inside a black cat comes and rubs up against my legs.
“Hello there.” I say to the loving cat.
“That’s Kitty, don’t mind her” He says walking into the small kitchen and grabbing a Monster, he offers me one but I decide against it.
We brainstorm ideas for the setting and the plot for about an hour, we finally decide to make some sort of teen angst story.
Once we got the pen on the paper, the ideas began to flow. We would each take turns, writing in a different color pen so Professor Johnson could deifferenciate who wrote what. The story ended up being about a boy in his 3rd year of high school. He was having a rough time but there was this girl that just made up for it. In the story they went on a small road trip adventure. I wrote most of the details of the story, while Leo wrote the dialouge.
When we were completely finished we spent at least 45 minutes editing it gramatically on the computer before priniting it out. While we were working I got to meet Leo's roommate Sam. He was really nice and funny, he was also extremely pale and had red hair. Not like ginger red, more of a maroon red. We finish the story then said our goodbyes. Leo drove me to back to my dorm so I don’t have to walk like 15 miles, so sweet. As I am making my way up the stairs I hear my phone ring and Michael’s name flashes across the screen.
