Chapter 34
It’s been a week since Michael and I got back together. Well I guess I wouldn’t call it getting back together, we’re kind of just friends at the moments. We aren’t even friends with benefits yet, I think he got the memo that he needed to earn my trust, so he is easing off. At least that’s what I hope. Me and Luke have been hanging out a lot more too. He helps me with my math, he is extremely good at it. Since he is so advanced for his age he knows exactly what I’m working on. He is great to have around because I am just awful at math, I will admit that. Literature is more my cup of tea, that is why I almost didn’t get into college. Everything includes math, which is why I almost failed physics. I just barely scraped up enough extra credit to pass with a C. But with some miracle, I made it here with a half-ride. Thank you electives.
I pull my book for American Literature, we’re reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. To be honest, I am not all that excited. But never mind that, I have a bit of a date tonight, but as I said before I don’t know if you would call it a date. It’s just complicated. I go slowly through a few chapters of the exceedingly boring book before checking the time. It is currently 4:50, Michael is coming to get me at 5:45. I guess that is my cue to make myself pretty. But Michael said that it would be preferred that I dress comfortably so, comfortable it is.
I walk over to the closet, which is extremely messy seeing as I haven’t cleaned it since I got here 2 months ago. I need to make sure I have a catch-up day sometime this week, it is very needed. I push through all the clothes on the floor trying to find my leggings. I finally spot them in the back corner of the tiny room. I pull them on before slipping on my Ed Sheeran hoodie. It’s my favorite, and I’m going to need it. The weather is changing a bit here in the sunny city of Los Angeles, it has become a bit overcast and it is getting cooler. I am assuming it is because fall is on its way. When I am done getting dressed I pull my hair into a messy bun, because it is so annoying. Everyone says how awesome it is to have thick hair, but honestly it isn’t. It is just hard to control it, it likes to kind of eat your face a lot. So when I am done criticizing my own hair I walk over to my phone and check it.
I have a message from Michael, he asked if I was about ready, it is now 5:30. I text him a quick response back and walk out of my dorm into the cool air. I sit down on the curb and wait for Michael. I open my phone and check twitter. A loud honk breaks me out of my scrolling, I look up and there is a smiling Michael sitting in the driver’s seat. A smile creeps on my face as I get in on the other side.
“Hey dork” I say with a grin.
“Hey” He says back as he starts the car.
“So, where are we headed?” I ask curiously.
“It’s a surprise”
“Michael, I hate surprises” I say nervously.
“Calm down, It’s a good surprise” He says, he puts his hand on top of mine on the arm rest, calming me down.
We take many turns down many streets and finally end up in a strip mall. Michael pulls up in front of a building that is painted all black, now this worries me. I have no possible ideas of what this could be, which makes my nerves go insane.
Michael must have noticed because he grabs my hand, before leading me through the door. When I get inside, I realize it is just a laser tag place. It’s a good thing I am wearing a lot of black because a bunch of serious butt kicking is about to go down.
I turn and flash a huge grin to Michael as he pays the woman at the counter. We walk into a room, still holding hands might I add. The room is filled with the vests and laser guns, there is a man in the middle of the room. He gives us directions and rules, along with which team we’re on. I am on the red team and Michael is the blue. I grab my vest off the rack as Michael grabs his. The man leads me down a hall, so that me and Michael can start at different points in the room. When the door opens to start I immediately take off to the highest point I can find. I spot Michael’s hair glowing under the black lights, he just ducked into a small hole in the wall. Before I knew it our time of invincibility was over. I quickly, but quietly ran down the stairs, almost falling at the bottom like the klutz I am.
I ran through all the connecting rooms until I found Michael’s base, I started to shoot at it but suddenly my vest started to vibrate and two arms wrapped around me from behind.
“Now what do you think you’re doing?” Michael purrs in my ear, I turn around and place a kiss next to his ear.
“Beating your Australian butt at laser tag” I whisper before shooting him in the chest and running away. Me and Michael continue shooting each other and running around for the rest of our designated time. When we both finish, we meet in the lobby, looking at the scores. It was close but I beat Michael.
“Yes!” I scream jumping up and down and getting in Michael’s face.
“I let you win” he pouts, crossing his arms over his chest
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Clifford.” I say before walking out of the building, I am hit by a cool breeze as I stand by the car, waiting for Michael to unlock it. When I hear the beep I quickly get in the passenger side and pull my knees to my chest.
“So, where to?” Michael asks as he puts the keys in the ignition.
“I don’t care, I don’t have any plans.” I say putting my feet to the normal position as he pulls out of the parking space.
“My place, yeah?” he asks, turning sharply out of the parking space, kind of throwing me against the door.
“Ow, Yeah” I confirm.
“Cool”
We drive to the house and he parks on the street, so I quickly run up the sidewalk and to the door. I push it open quietly before tip-toeing up the stairs to Calum’s room. I know he is asleep because he tweeted about taking a nap. I quietly open his door and stand right in front of him, thinking of how to wake him up. And then a genius idea popped into my head. I took in a deep breath, before releasing a high pitched scream.
“Shit!” Calum says as he falls off the bed because he was scared, I just break into hysterics, holding my stomach.
“Charlotte!” He exclaims from the floor, “That was not funny” he says with a straight face.
“Oh but it was” I smirk.
“What’s happening? I heard a scream.” Ashton says as he bursts through the door.
“Why is Calum on the floor?” Luke says when he pops his head in the door way.
“Charlotte thought it would be funny to wake me up by screaming, and I fell of the bed”
“Well that is funny, Cal.” Ashton confirms.
“Not when you have a heart attack!” he yells, “You guys have no sympathy”
I reach down to help him up, and he takes my offer.
“I’m sorry for scaring you Calum,” I apologize as I hug him.
“Apology not accepted” He teases poking my nose and pouting.
“Why is there a hug fest going on?” Michael says as he walks in the room.
“I scared Calum by screaming, he fell, and I was apologizing” I explain.
“Yep, that is my girlfriend everyone.” He laughs.
