Saffron City Train Station

Detective Looker was waiting for them. The tails of his brown trench coat were swept up by the wind. His steel gaze beat into Edgeworth's as he left with Swan. There was a grim look that tightened with his features, like the ominous lingering of the blade of a guillotine over their heads. Swan tensed. No doubt Proton had responded to their message in Johto.

"What is she doing with you?" the detective asked, glancing at Swan.

Edgeworth said, "She saved my life. After I was hospitalized, by Proton."

"Thank you Mrs. Swan for you deeds, then," Looker nodded.

"What's the issue?" he asked.

The detective pulled at his tie. "Someone saw Executive Proton today...and he had Julia's body...I...you need to see this."

Edgeworth wondered what exactly happened. For the detective to be so out of sorts, meant something was seriously wrong. If he had been only relatively hairy with her kidnapping then this must have been much worse. He would have to wait and see what it was, though. He would spare Detective Looker the horror.

"Detective?" asked Swan. "Are you okay?"

He sighed. "No. I'm not."

"Let's go. Don't talk about it if it bothers you, Looker. We will see when we arrive at the crime scene," Edgeworth said, cutting the conversation off.

They walked in a solemn silence that resembled that of a funeral. Along the way, Edgeworth wondered if Julia would get a nice funeral. She was only an intern detective, but she had heart. For himself, he couldn't say the same. His consciousness was being torn between two states. Was he happy or depressed? What was he, good or evil? Would he live or would he die? There were so many questions that he had no answers to, and it tore at him. It brutalized the heart and soul he had left, which dwindled slowly. He knew only few things to be true. He had to choose what he was going to do, before he would relinquish the last parts of his mind to an insanity he could not repel. He had to make up his mind. Live or let die. It was a mind game.

Detective Looker stopped them in front of a school. He glanced at the multitude of police vehicles. This did not bode well. He looked at Swan. She stepped back.

"Go on," she said. "I can't bear to see another thing he has done to spite others."

Edgeworth nodded. "I will meet you at the hotel."

As she walked away, the detective asked, "Why is she going?"

"I'm not at liberty to say why. It's a personal matter for her," he said.

He nodded and they went in. As they walked down the hall, the school administration clamored with talking to the police. A woman sat in a chair, wrapped in a blanket with the most blank stare Edgeworth had ever seen in his life. It was obviously shock. She must have discovered the body. Or perhaps, Proton had threatened her. Either way, he could understand how she felt.

Looker led him into a classroom. He glanced at the handle of the door which was slightly red from blood. Watching as Detective Looker put gloves on and held the door open for him, he stepped into the scene of the crime. Shocked by what he found, Edgeworth froze and looked at Detective Looker.

"There is no doubt that this is from him," he whispered.

The detective nodded. "Take a few deep breaths, it helps."

He couldn't ignore it though. The stench of the body despite the fact it had been obviously preserved was horrifying. It made the situation all the more real. Julia laid on the floor, hair stained red with dried blood most likely from the massive cuts across her body. Her arms encircled an IV bag with the insides stained with blood Shameful words lined carved expertly with a knife lined every inch of her skin. He looked up, trying to ignore it as he glanced at the whiteboards. The words there haunted him. Two lines on the left and two lines on the right. The blood dripped from the letters, tainting the white like a red sort sort of whitewash.
