Chapter 45

January 2017 - Feeling the Pressure

I was going insane. I didn’t know what I was thinking when I agreed to do this. This wasn’t me, not anymore. I couldn’t stand this.

I agreed to move back to London. Chris hated being away from everyone and I knew that he wanted to come back but he would never admit to that. So being the lovely fiancé I was, I told him that I wanted to move back. I quit my job, sold my apartment and headed home. When arriving, we agreed that Chris would go out and get a job, while I stayed at home. It didn’t take me long to figure out that I absolutely hated being home all day-everyday. Since I left and started working, I didn’t know how to spend my time.

Ever since Chris started working, I’ve been left to do all the wedding plans on my own. I didn’t want to bother Sophie with all of this, she and Luke have their own lives to work out now. She doesn’t have time for me. I didn’t know what to do, I was two colour schemes away from a breakdown.

I was out of options. I needed help desperately so I called Tom. I dialled his number and waited for him to pick up, “Hello”

“Hey Tom. You busy?”

“Why?”

“I need help. I don’t know the first thing about planning a wedding. I have no idea what I’m doing”

“Amelia, calm down. I’m sending help”

He hung up before I could reply.

Ten minutes past and I was a mess. I sat on my floor, staring at the piles of paper that contained wedding plans, scattered around me. I laid my head against the floor and cried. This pressure was all too much for me.

I heard a knock at the door but I ignored it, I didn’t have the energy to get up and open it. After a few knocks, the banging stopped. I didn’t really take much notice to it. Suddenly, I felt someone touch my shoulder, causing me to jump. I was glad to see Ryan’s shinning face looking at me.

“Tom told me you could use some help”

I threw my arms around him, thrilled that he was here, “My hero”

“Always”

A few moments past like this until I realised how inappropriate it may seem. I quickly pulled away from him. He caught on, “Right. So how can I help?”

Ryan and I spent the next few hours planning and organising the wedding. I hadn’t spent time like this with Ryan for so long. I forgot what it felt like to be in his presence.

“Alright, I think that’s everything. Don’t forget to call…”

“The flower people. I know. And I have to go dress shopping…yuck”

“I hear that shopping for a wedding dress can be fun”

“I would like to see you experience dress shopping with a bunch of girls and then tell me how fun it can be”

“Do I hear a bet coming on?”

“I believe you do…” I threw my hand out in front of me, “…I bet you can’t last the day dress shopping for all the dresses for the wedding”

“Alright…” Ryan took hold of my hand, “…if I win, you have to pay for lunch for a week”

“And if I win, you have to do anything I say for a week”

“Deal!”

We shook on it and continued planning the wedding.

By the time Chris came home from work, we had planned everything out. Ryan had even cooked dinner because I was useless. He stayed for dinner and the three of us sat around the table sharing stories of the days when we were young and foolish…’younger’. It was almost 12 when Ryan made his way home. I walked him out the door, “Thanks again for today. It meant a lot that you helped me”

“Of course. Any time. I don’t mind helping you out”

“Don’t forget that deal. I’ll make sure you go dress shopping with me so don’t you think you’ll get out of this one”

“Ha-ha. Okay, I’ll make sure to be there”

“Bye Ryan”

“Goodnight, Amelia”
