Chapter 46
March 2017 - Nothing has Changed
“You better be ready because we’re leaving now”
“Don’t worry Mel. I’ll be there”
Today was the day that Ryan and I agreed to go dress shopping. He was late and I was starting to think that he wasn’t going to show. I couldn’t wait much longer, I took my bridesmaids and went. It was a good half an hour into shopping when Ryan made his way over to us, “Told you that I’ll be here”
“You’re late. You said you’ll be there ages ago”
“At least I came”
I rolled my eyes and continued looking at dresses. This wasn’t something that I enjoyed. When I went dress shopping with Sophie, I didn’t have to try on anything since she already had the dress she wanted me to wear. All I had to do was wait for her to put on dress after dress only to hear her say, ‘Maybe another one’. This time, I was the one trying on dress after dress. If it were up to me, I would take the first one I saw but no, my bridesmaids and Ryan decided that I should try on every single dress in the store.
I was starting to think that Ryan may win this bet. He was sitting back, laughing and sipping tea with the girls. For a second I definitely questioned his sexuality but then I remembered that I had once dated him…
The day was dragging on, we had spent the majority of four hours here. My feet had begun hurting and I hadn’t even found a dress yet. The next store we entered, I hoped would have something that everyone liked. I couldn’t help but relate this to a movie.
I looked through the dresses, keeping my eyes open in case they found a hidden gem. Ryan came over to me and started looking at the dress next to me, “Having fun?”
“Oh I’m having an absolute ball”
“I knew you would be”
I stopped for a moment to glare at him. He laughed and continued looking at the clothes, “You do want to wear white yeah?”
“I was thinking about it. The only problem is, I actually hate white”
“Then why do you want to wear it?”
“It’s the colour of wedding dresses”
“That’s a really pathetic excuse”
“Shut up. I don’t even know what I’m looking for. Do I look for something that I will like or that Chris will like?”
“Look for you. Chris can suck it”
“That’s a bit rude”
I trailed off down the store and that’s when I saw it. The dress that I had been hoping for. It looked like it came straight out of a fairy tale. I took it from its hanger and pointed it out to Ryan, “Wow. You need to try it on. And don’t have a fit, I think this might be the one”
I make off with the dress and try it on.
After wrestling with the corset, I finally managed to put it on. I looked at myself in the mirror, paying close attention to the strapless dress that hugged my body. It was beautiful. The top half sparkled and glittered and trailed down, flowing as it reached the lace that entwined with the hem. It was soft to the touch. I could hear Sophie getting impatient outside so I made my way outside of the changing booth.
I stood there waiting for their opinions. I wasn’t going to get my hopes up too high since they had shot down every one of my other ideas. To my surprise, they seemed to like it. Sophie just sat there staring which made me nervous. Alex and Clare nodded in approval. Delilah even approved. Ryan sat there basically saying, ‘I told you so’. I think that I just found my dress.
