a method to the madness

"Can I go along? I'd really like some answers"

"That's putting you in the line of danger"

"I understand that, but she's been my best friend for years, I want to know why she wants me dead"

Hotchner looked at her and sighed, nodding, giving her a warning and also telling her to wear a bulletproof vest just in case. She obliged.

"You okay?"

Spencer patted her leg as they sat in the back of the van. She looked at his hand and then at him, smiling sadly.

"I just, don't understand"

He opened his mouth to tell her the reason, the reason that the BAU had come up with, but he decided against it. He leaned over to kiss her forehead gently, apologizing.

Once they arrived at the house, the house that belonged to Addien Jefferson. They all got out, she was forced to lay back while the others went inside and searched for Addien. But Karyn couldn't sit back, and so she started to make her way around back, knowing exactly where Addien would be.

And she was right, her lilac haired best friend was sat in the middle of the shed, tears streaming down her face as she held the bomb detonater. Her blue eyes found Karyn's and she cried harder.

"I'm sorry"

"Why'd you do it?"

Addien wiped her tears with her free hand.

"You left me, for three years I had no one. You left me and I had no idea what I was doing. Everything fell apart, my father killed my mother and my younger sisters, but he didn't kill me or my step father. Instead, he killed himself. I spent all this time wondering why he didn't kill me too, why he left me with that pervert. I suffered for two years with the mother fucker, and he did whatever he wanted to me. I can't have kids because of how rough he was to me. And then, you came back, and I was willing to forgive you...but I couldn't. If you hadn't of left, I would have never been put through that"

Karyn sat down next to her old friend, tears threatening to spill.

"Adi, I never knew"

"Of course you didn't, you only cared about yourself. I was stuck inside my bedroom, razors and pill bottles, empty beer cans when he wasn't looking, cigarettes when he was, I was only 14"

She looked at Addien, the tears falling freely. How could she call herself her best friend when she put her through that mess.

"He used to call his buddies and bring them over for poker, whoever won, got their turn with me, whoever lost, got their turn with me. I was a way for him to get money, and he didn't care that it hurt me, he wanted the money"

Karyn wiped her tears away and grabbed Addien's free hand.

"I'm so sorry for the pain that you had to go through, and I am so sorry that I left, but I am here. I've been here for you for seven years"

"But you never even asked me how I was, you didn't ask what I did during those 3 years, you just assumed everything was fine"

Addien's thumb moved to the red button.

"We can go together. You and I, we can die together and then we can make it up in the afterlife. There's no pain there"

Karyn held Addien's hand tightly.

"You don't want to die, you want to live, and tell me everything. We can talk this out"

"Addien Jefferson, put the bomb down. Karyn, get back"

It was Derek, followed by Spencer, Rossi, Hotchner, Emily, and JJ. Karyn shook her head and held Addien's hand tighter.

"Addien, put the detonater down, we can talk about this"

Addien looked at her, crying.

"You never even asked"

"I'm asking now, please, talk to me Addien"

Addien stopped crying, looking at her in surprise. She slowly set the detonater down, nodding.

"We can talk"

Karyn smiled through the tears and hugged Addien. It didn't matter that she tried to kill her, Addien had gone through so much pain and suffering and Karyn felt responsible.

And there were handcuffs placed on Addien as she was taken away, and Karyn was hugging Spencer, crying into his shoulder.

"I put her through all that pain"

He shushed her and ran his fingers through her hair.

"It's okay. It's okay"

And even though bombs were set off, tears were cried, and things were said, there was something that didn't add up, but through all the emotions in that day, nothing was said about it.

"There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness"
- Friedrich Nietsche
