After some moments of silence I started to be annoyed, especially because I didn’t know who was right next to me. I wish it wasn’t Matt because I was still not ready to talk to him, I needed time. I lifted my head a little bit and glanced to my left to see who the mysterious person was. Brian, of course. I wave of relief passed through my tense body.
“I told Matt I wanted to be alone.” I mumbled.
“I don’t care.. I know it’s not true.” He said.
“Of course it is!” I growled.
“Whatever, I’m going to be here anyway.”
“Why?”
“Because this backyard is not yours and if I want to sit here, I’ll sit here.” He said. “I can also be stubborn if I want..” More minutes of silence followed, until I turned my head to look at him.
“Did Matt tell you what happened?” I asked calmly.
“Kind of..” I furrowed my eyebrows confused. “I would like to hear your version of the story..” He said, making me roll my eyes.
“I said I didn’t want to talk.”
“But you’re talking to me..” I glared at him and he smiled. “I’m just trying to make you feel better.”
“I’m okay, I don’t need you to make me feel better..” I returned my gaze to whatever it was in front of me.
“Yeah of course.. that’s why you ran here.” He said sarcastically.
“Just go away.. I don’t want you here. I don’t want anyone here!” I grumbled, although it wasn’t true. I didn’t want to be alone, but I didn’t want to talk and Brian was insisting too much on me. He started to stand up but the thought of being all by myself sent a trail of fear through my body, which made me stop him.
“What? I thought you wanted to be alone..” I was almost sure that I saw a tiny smirk playing on his lips.
“Shut up and sit your fat ass on the floor.” My tone of voice was serious but he laughed.
“My ass is not fat, is it?” He asked, looking at his ass. I couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Yey!! I finally made you laugh.” He said with excitement as he sat back next to me but this time he was much closer. I looked at him and smiled. Brian was the only person who could bring a smile to my face in that moment.
“Thank you..” I almost whispered.
“What? I don't think I heard you.” He said playfully, making me glare at him. “Yes? Are you going to repeat or what?”
“Thank you!” I almost yelled and he chuckled.
“That’s a lot better..” I couldn’t help the smile that crossed my lips but I tried to hide it.
“Is that a smile?” He asked, smirking.
“No..” I lied, lowering my gaze to my lap.
“Yes, it is.." He said as he raised my chin gently with his fingers, making me face him again. "And I love it.”
“I can’t smile, Brian..” Sadness took over me again and I felt my heart aching as I remember what had happened.
“Hey.. that’s not true. Just because you’re hurt it doesn’t mean you can’t smile.”
“But I don’t want to smile.. I’m sad, I’m hurt and I hate my life! Everything is wrong and I will never be happy!” I was being over dramatic, but at that time I didn't care. I felt so hopeless.
