Chapter 34 ~ I Like You Too ~

It was as if the time around them stopped when silence fell. Kise kept silent as he waited for Megumi's answer.

What seemed like eternity was actually seconds. Megumi pulled away from him and stared into his eyes. Those honey brown orbs stared back at her with an emotion that she never saw before. His eyes were gently greeting her but, the determination in them was evident.

"Kise-kun.." her pale pink lips said his name.

Kise's brows knitted together. He was ready for her answer.

"Thank you," she smiled. Happy tears ran down her cheeks.

"Will you be my girlfriend, Megumicchi?"

"I want to because I like you too, Kise-kun. But.." Kise frowned. If there is a 'but' then the answer is.. "I can't be with someone right now. Not until Hicchan wakes up. I vowed that to my grandfather. Besides, I don't know if you will be happy with me. I'm still the village's monster, the cursed child, after all."

Kise contemplated on the issue. Of course, he felt disappointed. He already had a scare when Kuroko asked her out earlier that day. It wasn't a date really but, he was worried to death if Megumi was taken from him. He mustered all his courage to confess because he wanted to always be with her. But, she can't accept him. He didn't quite understand.

"Kise-kun?"

"You like me too, right, Megumicchi?"

Megumi blushed at the sudden question but, nodded anyway.

"But, we can't be a couple yet?"

Megumi nodded again. Kise pressed his forehead against hers again.

"You're not going to push me away after this, right?"

Megumi shook her head. "No. Kise-kun, you won't leave me after this, right?"

It was Kise's turn to shake his head. "Nope. I don't want to leave someone precious to me."

They both laughed at that. It was indeed a funny feeling. They both felt it. They had mutual feelings. But, they couldn't be together. Somehow, that obstacle only made them want to stay close to each other more than before.

"We both like each other."

Minako had sparkles floating everywhere around her. Kasamatsu choked on his tea. He looked away from the two, coughing to save his life. Minako gave him a hand by rubbing his back but, her eyes were still focused on the blonde and raven head. I mean, the tiny raven head.

Hina gripped her tea cup too tight out of surprise and it shattered in her hands. Kise would have been scared to death before but now, it seems that nothing could get rid of that smile one his face.

As for Noriko, she stared at their intertwined hands on the table. She scratched the back of her head before sighing.

"Well, we all knew this was coming anyway. But, Micchan made a vow, you know." Noriko glanced at Megumi who was blushing all the way to her ears at the moment.

"I know about that. Megumicchi already told me," Kise smiled sheepishly.

"So, you do realise that is an automatic rejection, right?" Noriko raised an eyebrow.

"No."

Noriko's eyebrows knitted together questioningly.

"That just mean that I have to wait until Hikari wakes up. So, I can still be with Megumicchi even without being her boyfriend.." Kise reasoned. Noriko's eyes widened because it was true. They could still be the same way as they always were. They are already close to each other anyway.
