Chapter 27 ~ We Will Protect You ~

"Alright! That's enough for today. Remember that the preliminaries to the Inter High is in two weeks. It's either you work your ass off or I'll kick it for you!" Souma prepped. All the basketball club members yelled a spiritful 'Yes, coach!' before Souma dismissed them.

After the team dispersed, he went out for a bit to who knows where. Probably the washroom.

Megumi sat on a bench beside Momoi, fresh towels already in hand.

"Megumicchi! How did I do today?" Kise chirped as he jogged over to the raven head. Megumi stood up to greet him as Momoi went to the other members.

"You did great as always, Kise-kun.." Megumi complimented simply.

"Yeah! Megumicchi complimented me~" Kise pulled Megumi into a bear hug, muffling her face in his chest. She's so tiny!

She pulled away from his a bit. She let out a small giggle at his excitement before turning her head to the others.

"All of you did a wonderful job. I'm sure we will be able to win!" Megumi smiled, beaming at them.

"Thank you for the hardwork, Mirai-san.." Kuroko said.

"Oi, Kise! Get your hands off Mirai and let her give us the towels," Aomine pushed Kise's face away, making him loosen his hold on Megumi. Kise was push away from the girl and fell butt first onto the floor.

"Aomimecchi!" Kise whined, tears hanging at the corner of his eyes.

Aomine took a towel from Megumi and started wiping the sweat off his face.

"Hey," he started. His eyes focusing on her.

"Y-Yes?" Megumi was starting to blush. She literally can't last 10 seconds without blushing when talking to people. Especially, boys. Apparently, Kasamatsu is the only boy she's used to and maybe her brother. In addition, most of her close relatives are females and she's surrounded by children too. So, she rarely has the company of boys her age.

Back to Aomine..

"Satsuki has your number, right?" Aomine asked in that usual deep lazy tone of his. Although, there seem to be just a little bit of blush on his tanned cheeks.

"Umm, yes. She does. Wh-Why do you ask?" Megumi blinked up at him. It seems to be her usual expression when curious. It also shows how clueless she is.

"Nothing." Aomine sighed and flicked her forehead for no reason. "See you.."

Megumi covered the place where Aomine flicked her with her hand. A small pout was visible on her lips. She could only stare at Aomine's back as he walked towards the locker room.

"Megumicchi," Kise called her name after pulling himself back onto his feet. "Let me help you with those."

"E-Eh? O-Okay.." Megumi snapped out of her trance when Kise poked her cheeks with his index finger.

Kise took some towels from her and proceeded in giving them out to the rest of the team.

As he walked away, Momoi nudged Megumi's arm with her shoulder.

"Ne, what did Dai-chan ask you?" Momoi asked, her face invading Megumi's space.

"Umm, h-he asked me if you have my number."

"He did?!" Momoi exclaimed excitedly, the pitch of her voice rose almost into a squeal.

"Y-Yes. I don't know why though."

"Hehe~ you'll find out soon enough." Momoi patted her shoulders before going on her way to continue her work. She left Megumi standing there, blinking.
