I held on to Scott as they started lowering the lifeboat. Suddenly, there was bang from behind us and we looked to see what looked like a red firework blowing up. I hugged Scott tighter and he hugged me back.
"Mummy, they are doing fireworks for us!" a young boy exclaimed as he looked up and I looked at him. The mother smiled.
"Of course, because you are a special little boy," the mother said and I looked at Scott. He looked sad as he pulled out his watch.
"12:45," he whispered to me. I dug in my coat pocket for my pencil box and paper. I wrote as neatly and as quickly as I could as we were lowering. I put it away after thirty seconds and held Scott.
Suddenly the left went down too much and there was a scream from all of us. I held on to Scott as we leaned back and he grabbed on to the ropes. I looked at everyone behind us and they were all holding on to someone else. I reached back and grabbed Emma's lifebelt as she gripped onto Robert.
"Scott! Stand on that side!" Officer Pitman yelled and Scott made me held on to the rope as he stepped on to the side and looked up.
"Lower this side!" Scott yelled up and Office Lowe gave an okay signal before turning around. As the boat got evened out, Scott jumped back into the boat and made me let go of the rope.
"Scott, help me pull out the oars," Officer Pitman said and I bent over to help.
"Herbert, I am going to be level with them," Scott warned and Officer Pitman nodded.
"Scott, that will cause panic," I told him as we passed the oars back to the make sure all eight oars could be used.
"We are on a llifeboat. The only panic that we will get is for people still on the ship," Scott told me as we hit the water and he started disconnecting the lifeboat from the ship.
"A panic is a panic, Scott. We can't be in charge of that," I told him and he shook his head.
"They deserve to know, Mae. Either way, they will find out soon enough," he said as he looked at the dark metal that was to right of us. He ran his hand against it and looked at Officer Pitman.
"I know that, Scott," I said as I heard the orchestra start playing. We all looked up and I sighed. "Keeping them calm while we are close to the ship is the most important thing that we can do for right now," I whispered. He looked up and sighed as we heard the mindless chatter that was going on.
"She has a point, Mr Sire," Robert said and Scott nodded as people started rowing. Due to our position of the boat, Scott and I couldn't really row so he sat me down and we looked at the ship as we rowed away.
"I felt so young on the ship," Scott said as he held me to his body.
"I did too but sometimes the good things aren't supose to last," I whispered.
"I will make sure that our good thing lasts until my dying breath," he whispered back and I leaned on his shoulder.
"Let's not talk about that for now and focus on what is happening," I stated. He nodded and I looked back at the Titanic. The sight made me gasp getting everyone's attention. The ship was already tilted and the bow was about to disappear under the water.
"The ship is sinking?" the mother asked. I looked at Scott and nodded.
"Yes, ma'am. The Titanic should be at the bottom of the ocean in two hours," Scott said as he put his arm around me as we kept our eyes on the Titanic. My eyes went to the deck that was the closest to the bow. Some of the people were running to lifeboats realising that the ship was sinking but most people were just standing around.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we need to row out just a little bit more before we can just sit and watch," Officer Pitman said as he tried getting our attention. I kept my eyes on the ship and Scott pulled me to his side.
"I thought this was just a safety precaution since the rudder broke," a man said. I looked at him and he looked back at me.
"Mr. Behr, if the rudder broke, we wouldn't have asked you to put on your lifebelts but we would have asked you to pack your belongings," Officer Pitman said. Another distress signal went off and I watched it go up into the sky.
"Scott? Do you think everyone we know will be okay?" I asked, softly. He kissed my forehead and I couldn't help but to shut my eyes to stop myself from watching the ship sink in front of me. However, I reopened my eyes because I couldn't help but to watch what was happening.
"I hope so," he whispered and we held each other as we got further away from the ship.
