The screams only got louder as every lifeboat sat still for a while as we connected the dots as to what just happened. Scott was shaking and I couldn't help but to hold his arm. He checked his watch. 2:20. The screams filled my ears and I looked around. Other lifeboats were going towards each other and I realised that we hadn't moved.

"Okay, ladies and gentlemen," I stated as I stood up, "We have one of two options, either we start rowing towards other lifeboats and attach ourselves to them or we go back and pick up more people from the water." Everyone looked at me and I took a shaky breath.

"If we go back right now, we will be swamped by people trying to get aboard the ship," Scott said, looking up at me and I nodded as I looked back down at him. Officer Pitman moved his flashlight around and shook his head.

"No. We have to go back for those in the water. Now men, we pull towards the wreck," Officer Pitman stated. I looked at him with admiration for his bravery but it was met with uproar.

"You are not taking us to where people will drown us," Mr Behr yelled at him. I swallowed and looked back at where people were yelling for us to help him.

"Appeal to the officer not to go back! Why should we lose all our lives in a useless attempt to save others from the ship?" Ruth ordered one of the stewards.

"Okay, okay! We will go to the other lifeboats," Officer Pitman stated. I felt tears roll down my eyes as everyone started rowing to the group of lifeboats.

"Mae, sit down," Scott whispered as more and more tears rolled down my face and the coldness whipped agianst me.

"Cowards, you are all cowards! Those people have lives just like you and they deserve to live just as much as you do. But you think that you are so powerful just because you let money decide who you are as a person," I yelled. Scott stood and held my arm.

"Just sit down, Mae. It's cold and I'll handle them," he whispered and I looked at every person in the boat.

"Miss Morgan does have a point. The men and women in the water gave up their spots for other people and I am willing to bet that a lot of people lost their husbands, wives, parents and children tonight," Robert said as he looked back out to where the Titanic was.

"We are not going back, even if it is the right thing to do. The water is cold and drowning people will cling to anything," Mr Beckwith stated. Scott rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Drowning isn't going to kill them, but freezing to death will," Scott said, "But Officer Pitman, by all means, please go towards the lifeboats." He sat down next to me and I took his hand as we started at the waves that people were making to get attention and stay above the water.

"Did you really have to say that in front of my son?" Ruth asked. I didn't turn around as the lifeboat moved. Scott put his arm around me as I watched the cloud come from my mouth due to the coldness. I could only imagine the water that we saved ourselves from being in.

"I never asked you if you were okay," Scott whispered. I looked at him.

"Why wouldn't I be okay? I am not one of the people in the water that are freezing to their deaths," I whispered back and shook my head as the screams seemed to get quieter.

"You were almost the first person to fall off the ship and into the water," he explained. I noticed a slight pain in my knee but I didn't want to alarm him when we didn't know when safety was coming.

"I am in perfect condition," I told him. He raised an eyebrow at me and I looked back at him.

"Then why are you limping?" he asked. I felt my mouth open a little and he pulled up my skirts to look at my knees. I looked at my nearly healed legs and then at my knee that was busted open.

"How did you know?" I asked. He gave me a solemn look as he turned around.

"Herbert, do we have a first aid kit?" Scott asked.

"No, Scott. We have water and biscuits," Officer Pitman said. Scott nodded and turned back to me, pulling my skirts back over my knees.

"As soon as we get to the savior ship, I will get someone to look at that," Scott said and I leaned on his shoulder.

"I am sure that we will be able to live without a medic. It is just a banged up knee," I whispered. He rubbed my back.

"I know that you will be okay," he stated. "But go for me?" I sighed and looked at him.

"Just this once," I said. He pulled me closer and sighed.

"I am so sorry," he said. I looked up at him with a confused look.

"What are you sorry about?" I asked. He took a deep breath.

"This isn't how I wanted to take you to America or how I wanted you to spend your birthday," he whispered, "Happy birthday, Mae." I smiled at him.

"As long as both of us are together and happy, I won't mind that we are on the lifeboat together," I whispered and he pressed his lips against my forehead.
