Scott and I spent the rest of the 7th in the pool and he taught me as well as he could until it was time for us to get ready for dinner. I drew myself a bath and washed off before changing into a red dress and red heels. Scott got himself ready as well and was humming the whole time.
"You've yet to tell me where we will be dinning tonight," I told Scott as I sat on the couch in his dressing room. He looked at the mirror to look at me. I had only pinned up a part of my hair since Scott loved my hair down.
"It is a surprise for you," he said and I looked at him with a close eyes.
"Scott, you know that surprising a lady is impolite," I tried. I was excited and I just wanted to know where he would be taking me.
"Mae, you know that begging is not what a proper lady does," he said. I smiled and sat on my knees as I put my elbows on the arm of the couch to put my chin on my hands.
"I ain't sayin' that I am a proper lady but ain't I a lady regardless?" I asked, not caring if it broke the 'first class' speech I was suppose to be following. He smiled at me and put his hands on either side of my arms.
"I are a fine lady but you ain't gettin' the surprise out of me, Miss Morgan," he said. I laughed and sat back on my bare feet, considering I kicked off my heels before I drew my feet onto the couch.
"You really are a hard negotiator, aren't you?" I asked. He smiled and tied his tie in the mirror.
"A man of our status can not let others run over him and his family so easily," he stated and I walked across the floor to him bare footed to adjust his collar and his tie.
"Your fiancée is a different story now isn't she?" I asked. He looked at me and I smiled at him while biting my lip. He cupped my cheek and I smiled at him as he rubbed his thumb across my cheek bone.
"In other situations but not in this one," he said. I pouted and he laughed. He grabbed his suit jacket to put on.
"Well, is it on the Titanic?" I asked as we walked to the sitting room after I put on my heels.
"It is not on the Titanic," he said as we walked to the coat rack. He took my coat off and I refused it.
"It is a warm evening, coats are not required for such weather. Now is it in Southampton?" I asked as he hung my coat back up.
"Indeed it is. I hope that you will enjoy this evening," he said as he opened the suite door. I held his arm as we walked out to the main deck and off the ship.
"You simply must give me a hint," I requested as we walked into what seemed to be a bar but it was empty for the time being. He walked up the stairs and I followed him. He opened the door and there was a table set for two on the roof. I gasped.
"I figured one proper courting night was required before we get married," he told me as he held me to his side. I looked at the stars that were typically hidden under the factory smoke, and for the first time in the longest time, I saw British stars twinkling down on us.
"Scotty, this is beautiful," I told him as we walked closer to the table that was set up for us. He pulled out the chair for me and I sat in the chair, gracefully.
"Do you like it?" he asked. I looked around and laughed.
"Like it? Scotty, this is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me," I said as tears formed in my eyes. I wiped them with the back of my hand and Scott reached across the table to touch my hands.
"You are worth doing this for. Seeing you in the pool today, laughing and holding on to me, proved to me what I already knew. I love you. There is no more thinking if I love you anymore. I love you more than anyone in the world," he said. I closed my eyes in order to make sure that I didn't cry as his eyes stayed on me.
"Scotty..." I breathed and he rubbed the top of my hands with his thumbs as the tears started to roll down my cheeks.
"You are a perfect balance of grace and beauty. God must have struggled giving you up to mere mortals like myself and I don't know what I have done in my life to be graced by Him to have you by my side in the next chapter of our lives. I am over the moon that I have you by my side," he said. I smiled at him and he kissed my hands.
"Thank you, Scotty," I said. A sudden thought that seemed so important to me came to me and I spoke it to him. "Scott, we didn't go to church today," I whispered and he smiled.
"We sinned last night and we have the rest of our lives to be faithful to the church and God," he told me. I smiled. He was right. We ruined our purity before marriage and we did have the rest of out lives to pray and go to church.
"You are correct. Now, what is on the menu for tonight?" I asked. He looked at the table.
"You will have to see and the server should be up here shortly," he said as he drew circles with his fingers on the table.
"Scott?" I asked.
"Yes, Mae?" he asked as he looked up and stared into my eyes.
"I love you."
