Chapter 5: Red Door

*Lafayette Cemetery-Mausoleum- Nighttime*

Elijah is having nightmare of killing his first love Tatia. He wakes up and pulls on his chains to try to break free and Esther is seating down at table drinking some tea and comments, "Have you forgotten where you are son?!" She pauses and walks over to him and informs him, "Save your strength, my chains don't break so easily!" She continues and asks, "Having sweet dreams?" She smiles and take a sip of her tea and he responds pissed off, "Get out of my head!" She responds with a smile and says, "I'm not in your head dear, you were dreaming! Go ahead get your bedrest, we have much to discuss!" She laughs and leaves.

*A Few Hours Later-Morning*

Esther speaks and asks, "Who were you dreaming bout ripping apart, when you woke earlier?" He says nothing annoyed and glares at her and she continues and asks, "Was it your new little play thing Caroline or was it someone else?" He pulls on his chains again and she takes a step forward to him and says, "Stop fighting it Elijah, I brought you here to listen and your not going anywhere until I said my peace!" He responds and says, "So speak!" She responds, "I want you to rejoin our family, but as a witch! I want you to leave behind the grotesque savage of vampirism that's made of you! Take the body of a mortal and we can all be happy again, start over?!" She takes a sip of her tea and he remarks, "You do know your entirely demented don't you?" She walks back over to the table and asks sarcastically, "Am I?" She retorts, "I'm not the one who pulls the wings off every beautiful butterfly that he finds..." She laughs as he still tries to breaks free and she turns to him and continues, "Like the woman who floats across the edge of your nightmare!" He responds pissed off, "Let me go, Now!!!" His vampire features show and she smiles and comments, "How quickly you seem to go back to your more savage self..." His vampire features stop and she continues, "The mortal son I raised is nothing but a masked, worn to hide ancient demons!" He responds and says, "You know nothing!" She responds and says, "You see, that's where your wrong..." She walks over to him and continues, "Ik more bout the secrets you carry than you do! Shall I list them? I can begin with the first little butterfly you destroyed, a sweet young widow from our village, who caught your eye when you were still human..." He looks away and she smiles and comments, "Oh you remember her of course, how could you forget the first girl to ever steal your heart, she of the mystical blood, the first doppelgänger, Tatia!" He responds and says, "I did nothing but love that woman until the day you took her life!" She walks over to shelf and says, "Ik that's would you think Elijah..." She pauses and gets a candle and holds it in her hand and turns to him and continues, "But that's precisely why your here!" She walks over to him with the candle in her hand and says, "I need to show you the monster you really are and when I do you will beg for salvation and happily I shall provide it!" She uses her magic on the candle to breach his memory.

*Flashback-The late 10th/early 11th century-The Middle Ages-Nighttime*

'It was somewhere we'd dance to kill the best of our lives, appease the Gods way of the season.' Elijah and Esther are watching Tatia dance in a circle around a bonfire with joy and Elijah smiles and Esther smiles. 'All women envied her, all men wanted her.' Tatia takes her mask off and smiles at Elijah and then Klaus grabs her by the arm and wraps his arm around her waist and takes his mask off and smiles at her, dances with her and then kisses her. 'But she only had eyes for one.' Elijah sees and leaves and she looks over to where he was and doesn't see him and she stops dancing and looks for him. She finds him at a pigs pin and she comments with a smile, her mask in her hand, "Do not tell me you came to save Lucky the pig from it's fate?" She smiles and he looks over to the pig and then her and says, "No, I'm afraid Lucky the pigs' fate is food?" She smiles and he continues, "Just as your fated to love another?" He looks down sad and she responds, "And you? Fated to watch from the shadows, the noble marten?" She continues and says, "Fate does not dictate my heart Elijah..." She walks past him and says, "I was fated to stir myself on a pyre after my husband died in battle but I did not, I chose to live..." She turns to him and continues, "I choose to give my heart to once more..." He looks at her shocked and she takes a step forward to him and says, "To someone strong, protective, fierce, and yet noble and gentle..." She cups his face with her hand and he clasps it and she says, "I choose you Elijah." He smiles and tries to kiss her and she takes a step back and comments to the pig, "And you choose to have your first kiss where your mother slaughters the pigs, not very romantic..." He cuts her off and kisses her anyway and then stops and moves a lock of her long brown hair and says, "Perhaps we should set Lucky the pig free, it seems one fate can change after all..." He kisses her again.
