Somniphobia;
The fear of sleep
You shoot up, each muscle in your body working to lurch you upright. Your lungs were on fire as they worked against themselves, torn between trying to let out a scream, and trying to take in a much-needed gasp of air.
Hoseok's tight grip around you fell loose, and you, in the midst of your panic, were rendered acutely aware of his presense.
Luckily, he was still asleep. His dyed orange hair fell over his face, like a frame, if onlt the top of the frame was left.
You couldn't help but examine each and every detail of your boyfriend's face while the only source of light in the room was the full moon, right outside your window.
His soft snores fill the room as you fall silent, bringing a soft smile to your face. His arm had fallen limply into your lap, his fingers curled in slightly. After a few moments of staring at your sleeping boyfriend, you gently move his arm off of you, and crawl out of your shared bed.
You knew you shouldn't have passed out. You knew you'd get nightmares. You always do. They're always there.
The house was pitch black, discluding what little light that the moon provided. You reach over, gently clicking on the living room light, earning yourself a groan as your sensitive eyes adjusted to the light.
You make your way to the kitchen, intent on getting some water to get rid of your scratchy throat. Staring at your sleeping boyfriend had temporarily numbed your pain, but failed to erase it.
Kneeling, you begin to untangle a bottle of water from the plastic casing, trying to be as quiet as possible.
Apparently, that was still not quiet enough.
"(Y/N)?"
You start, abandoning your water as you turn around abruptly, meeting Hoseok's confused gaze.
"You scared me, Hobi." You state, gripping the counter tightly in one hand, gripping your shirt in your other hand.
"You scared me too. Why are you up?" He asks, coming closer to you. You don't move, letting Hoseok envelope you in his warmth. You don't reply, instead buring your head into his shoulder.
"Did you have another nightmare?" He asks against your neck. You nod, curling your arm around him; pressing yourself into his chest as hard as you can.
"Come back to bed, jagiya." Hoseok whispers, taking your smaller hand into one of his larger hands. You remain still, completely petrified.
"I can't." You say softly.
"Jagi--"
"I can't, Hoseok."
Sensing the obvious desperation in your voice, Hoseok stops trying to draw you back to bed. But he makes sure to keep your hand tightly in his.
A gesture that made your heart flutter.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No." You say softly. Your otherwise gentle voice sounded malicious, but wasn't. Hoseok knew that.
He also knew that nightmares were a recurring event for you. You made sure to tell him the night that he asked for you to become his girlfriend. And made sure to remind him when he asked for you to move into an apartment with him.
Initially, you suspected that it would scare him away. That upon finding out that you had extra baggage that made it very hard to remain in a healthy relationship with, that he would drop you out of his life.
Everyone always does.
But Hoseok didn't see it that way.
The night you told him that you have nightmares, he found himself falling even more in love with you. He found himself infatuated by your ability to handle yourself so well.
He found himself completely captured by your sanity. The sanity that you maintained, even when you were afraid of something as simple as sleep.
"I'm always here, jagiya." Hoseok whispers, gently pecking your lips. You nod, pulling his head back down to press your soft lips against his once more.
"I'm ready to go back to sleep now."
