" Everyone in the small town had been told to never go near Blackwater Lake.
The way that the surface of the water reflected off the lack of sunlight, making it appear an almost dirty onyx color, was probably a clear sign to stay away from the lake.
No one swam in it, because often times, no one came back.
No one went near it, because often times, they saw things in the water. Things that would label them insane.
No one forgot the first girl who had fallen victim to the eerie pull of Blackwater Lake.
She was innocence. She was still young, no older than sixteen, when she was lured to the lake. Her curiosity was her demise. Her--"
"These stories are garbage. None of it's true." You say, shifting your forearms to more comfortably support your weight on the broken docks.
Taehyung drops the leather-covered journal, looking at you with an eyebrow raised. He sat crosslegged on the docks, staring down at the mythical creature staring up at him with her big and innocent eyes.
Thankfully, Blackwater Lake was known for constantly being covered in thick fog. If any passerby--an unlikely event within itself--happened to see Taehyung and you, they wouldn't see your (f/c) fins resting on the water surface. Nor would they see the massive fish tail that lowered down into the murky depths.
"Oh? Then tell me. Have you always been half fish? You never told me." Taehyung sets down your family journals. He had to sneak into a museum to get them. After all, the death of Miss (Y/n) was an ongoing mystery. Though he was sure the people--your family line included--would not mind.
They had given up on you.
Yes, it was a morbid thought and act. But when you had gone missing from your bed one night in the June of 1568, with your dress and belongings found on the banks of the lake, your parents had to accept that you were dead. An empty casket was lowered into a named grave only months later, memoralizing your short life. Nearly five decades later, the grave still stood tall in a private cemetary on the (Surname) property.
"I was running." You say simply. Taehyung scoots closer to you, intrigued.
"Running from what?"
"My life. I suppose... I guess I don't really remember the details. It has been nearly fifty years." You look down sadly. You hadn't aged a day.
You were still sixteen.
You would always stay sixteen.
Taehyung studies your unreal features. Your soaked hair stuck to your bare shoulders, yet still framing your face.
He thought you were easily the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
And perhaps that was the siren pull that every mermaid had. But he'd seen portraits of you. You didn't look far too different from yourself at all, after "death."
"But I found myself here. At the lake. Perhaps it was a suicide attempt. I'm not... I don't remember. All I remember is cold. The water was freezing, despite it having been the warmest summer in centuries" you smile fondly, as if remembering the sun. "I remember looking up at the sky, stargazing. Did you know that mermaids are excellent stargazers? Our eyesight is so keen, because we have to see through the water." You say, closing your eyelids briefly.
"You remember such intricate details of when you turned, but not why?" Taehyung asks in disbelief.
"Oh, Taehyung. That's because nothing really matters when you're a mermaid. All I know is that you turn when you feel an overwhelming burst of emotion, before..." you trail off.
Taehyung rests his hand on his cheek, momentarily letting himself think back to when he found you.

He was trying to escape from the world for a brief moment. Thus, the best idea was to go to the water of Blackwater Lake. No one bothered to come to the lake anyways, so it was guarenteed seclusion.
It was then, that he saw a girl trying to claw her way onto the dock. Thinking it was a swimmer who was struggling to come back on to the docks. He didn't even question why you weren't just simply walking onto the shore, mere feet away from the decrepit old docks.
"Do you need help?" Taehyung asks, jogging to the docks. He knelt down, looking down at you. You yelped, sinking down so that barely your eyes showed above the dock's wooden planks.
You shake your head, and instead point at a small, crimson colored shell that was resting on a plank, just out of reach. He blinks, and hesitantly hands you the shell. You take it immediately, and prepared too dive back into the water.
"Wait!" Taehyung suddenly shouted before you left him. You look at him in confusion. "What's your name? And why are you in the water? Isn't it not the weather for swimming?"
"I'm (Y/n)." You only answer the first in the series of questions. "I come to these docks everyday. I just... I lost my shell today." You say with a slight foreign accent.
"Oh? Why? O-oh, and I'm Taehyung. Kim Taehyung." He introduces himself.
"No more questions, Kim Taehyung. Although I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow." You said, before diving back into the dark and murky shallows.

"Do you think it'll be odd, when I grow old, and you'll forever be young?" Taehyung asked suddenly as he lay on his back next to you. Water lapped at his feet, soaking his socks. But he didn't care. As long as he was next to you.
"No. Not if you're like me." You say calmly. Taehyung sits up abruptly, looking at you. You, startled, squint at him.
"That's possible?" He demands.
"I said, any burst of emotions. Is love not an emotion in this century?"

12.) 3 Unpopular Opinion; I think that there are actually people better than others. Therefore, as humbling of a quote, "No one is better than anyone else" is, I think it's inaccurate and false. If you are a genuinely horrible person, who doesn't even have a valid reason to be an asshole, then you are an irrelevent human being and actually considerate people should come before you. Not this equalizing bullshit. Everyone is a human, but not everyone is a person.
wow ok that was a speech.
