this has been in my chapter contents for a while, and j just keep rearranging and rewriting oneshots so that i don't have to publish it.
but i never really had the heart to delete it, because of how hard i worked on it.
since it's so cliché, i figured no one would like it.
but here it is.🔞❕warnings; mild language
⚠️disclaimers; the divergent trilogy is not my own. all rights go to veronica roth. except for this ff.
technically this ff is mine.
You held your hand over the bowl of stones, staring at your life, in a sense. A life of selflessness. You would be bound to it, for the rest of your life. If you didn't want to become factionless, that is.Just as the crimson blood was about to fall upon the stones, and thereby bind you to selflessness, your hand suddenly swerved, letting the blood fall into the ceramic bowl of hot coals.
You look up. You knew you shouldn't have. You didn't know how you did it. How you head the heart--or lack thereof--to look in your parents' eyes and make the conscious decision to abandon them in the footsteps of your older brother.
At least Jackson would be in Dauntless with you.
Silence overtakes the hall. Abnegation usually stayed in abnegation. Once a stiff, always a stiff. For a child of Abnegation to choose Dauntless was exceedingly rare. If any, those who left Abegation went to Amity, where selflessness was still a major factor. Not to Dauntless, to climb buildings and get tattoos.
And two siblings, born to grey, chose black.
The silence stills. And then breaks, as the Dauntless begin cheering, clapping, and chanting as their newest member joined their ranks.
The hall began to empty soon after, being as you and Jackson were the last two to cut your hands and choose your faction. The factions begin filing out of the large building, Dauntless first to exit in their rather energetic manners.
You follow soon behind, with Jackson's arm slung over your shoulder.
But not before casting one last gaze at your heartbroken mother, and enraged father.

You hadn't expected jumping onto and out of a train, would be your first test. Hell, you hadn't even expected there to be a test in the first place.
Yet, here you were, still clinging onto your older--by two minutes--brother's thick grey shirt. He was taller than you by a long shot, and far too built to be a member of Abnegation, buried under prude clothing.
His large hand slides across your shoulders, keeping you close. Some might think that you were a couple, if it weren't for the subtle similarities--hair color, eyelashes, et cetera. Small, microscopic details that quietly screamed "siblings." Otherwise, it was seemingly near-impossible that you and he were twins.
Suddenly, people begin jumping out of the train. Jackson's grip on you tightens briefly, before loosening as he gently pushed you towards the swiftly-shortening line of people jumping out of the train.
