Angel Wings

It was 3 am when I woke up. You were still fast asleep beside me. I should have shaken you awake then but you were too handsome and peaceful in your slumber that I stopped for a while and watched you sleep.

I caressed every line and slope on your angelic face with my gaze, smiling at myself because I know that the heart that comes with the beauty I was appreciating is just as divine.

Such a man would do any mother proud wherever she may be and I am blessed to have you.

I indulged myself in my simple joy of watching you sleep for another twenty minutes before I finally touched your cheek and whispered in your ear.

"Love, wake up." I chuckled when you groaned and snuggled in my armpit, hiding your eyes because you didn't want to wake up yet.

"RJ, you promised. Sabi mo sasamahan mo ako today. We have to go." I said as I gently shook your shoulder.

"Love, five minutes pa please." You pleaded and buried your face in my hair.

"Love, please... Wag na makulit. Masa-sad na ako." I pouted.

You lazily lifted your head up and raised yourself on one elbow then looked me. "Uy..." You drawled and poked my nose. "Wag na sad ang baby girl ko please." You continued and I had to stop myself from giggling as you struggled to keep your sleepy eyes open.

"Gising ka na?"

You nodded your head but your eyes didn't agree with you.

I chuckled and shook my head. "Okay. Let's go. Kiss mo na ako tapos maligo na tayo. I'll drive so you can continue sleeping in the car."

Suddenly, your eyes opened wide as you grinned like a buffoon. You sprung out of bed and you lifted me in your arms.

"Hoy, Faulkerson! Ano to?!" I gasped.

"Nagmamadali tayo di ba? Sabay na tayo maligo tapos dun na din kita iki-kiss para tipid sa oras." You told me as you wiggled your eyebrows.

I bit my lip and blushed. "Halaaaah... Teka lang naman... Paano? Pero sige..."

Your grin grew wider and I feared it might rip your fluffy cheeks. "Let's go!" You cheered and strode to the bathroom.

"Love, wake up. We're here." I whispered as I gently stroked your jaw after I parked the car and turned the engine off.

You rubbed your eyes and yawned then smiled sweetly at me when you opened your eyes. "Alam mo malungkot ang langit ngayon kaya maulan." You said.

"Huh? Bakit?"

"Kulang ng isang anghel dun kasi nandito ka." You told me and I giggled at your cheesy line.

"Antok ka pa? Itulog mo ulit yan mamaya." I answered and pinched your cheeks.

You laughed then realized where we were. "Dito? Dumaan lang ba tayo o..."

"Dito talaga ako magpapasama." I smiled. "Tara?" I said and reached for the bouquet of yellow and white daisies, carnations and calla lilies.

"Saan galing yan?" You asked.

"Tulog na tulog ka nga talaga." I chuckled. "Dumaan tayo sa flower shop kanina. Halika na nga. May date pa ako sa future mother-in-law ko."

I was about to open the door when you held my hand.

"Sandali, Love." You said and I turned to look at you.

You smiled at me despite the tears that brimmed your eyes. "Thank you." You whispered.

"I love you. So much." I smiled back and cupped your cheek.

"I love you more." You said as your voice cracked and some tears escaped your eyes.

You rubbed your cheek on my palm and kissed it. "I'm so blessed to have you, my Nicomaine."

"Ganoon din ako." I smiled.

You leaned to kiss me gently and then helped me out of the car.

Minutes later we stood hand in hand with lit candles in front of Mommy Rio's urn, eyes closed in prayer.

I never knew her but I have a feeling she has been watching over us since the beginning and will continue to protect us with her angel wings for the rest of our lives. 💛🍃
