Your eyes sought mine then let go of my hand to unwrap the item while I watched. I could still feel your parents's heavy stare and Ate Niki's quiet nervousness. I'm really sorry that in her effort to help us, she also got caught in this mess.

The item that was revealed was a familiar small white plastic object that held an answer for us . One that we have both dreaded and anticipated.

I stared at it for a few seconds even after I realized what it meant - one blue line.

"Negative." You softly said out loud what I already knew. "I wanted to wait until you got here before I tested again kaso..." Your voice trailed off when you saw Nanay's reprimanding glare. I nodded but I have yet to grasp the fact that was presented to me.

Negative. The test was negative.

How accurate is it? Does it really mean you're not pregnant? Could it be a false negative result? What could it mean for us now? My mind was already swirling with questions.

A surge of mixed also emotions quietly and suddenly pooled inside me. There was relief, yes, but it was only an undertone to the inexplicable disappointment that I felt and the continuing anxiety on what your parents might say about us.

"Hindi buntis si Meng." Nanay said.

"Hindi ka na din namin mapagkatiwalaan kagaya nang dati." Tatay indignantly looked at me but I also saw that he was hurt.

"Wala ka nang obligasyon dito. Pwede ka nang umalis." Tatay continued.

"Tay..." I was about to reason with him when you stood up defiantly.

"Hindi po." You spoked with a weak and hoarse voice and blinked back your tears. "Hindi po siya aalis."

"Meng, di ka dapat sumasagot sa Tatay mo." I told you calmly as I stood beside you.

"Pero..."

"Buong araw ka nang umiiyak. Pagod ka na." I said softly and gently brushed my thumb on the back of your hand as I held it. "Birthday mo pa kahapon." I smiled weakly. "Ako naman. Ako nang bahala."

"Jay, just please... don't leave me. Please..." You pleaded and I all I wanted to do at that moment was wrap you in my arms and never let you go no matter what happens but I respected that your parents were upset so I just held your hand instead and nodded.

"Never. I will never leave you, my Nicomaine." I whispered. "Umupo ka na muna." I said and you did but did not let go of my hand.

I faced you parents who kept their eyes on us. "Nay... Tay..." I started.

"Wag na, RJ. Wala kang pwedeng sabihin sa amin na hindi pa namin narinig sa'yo." Nanay cut in. Her voice was still gentle but you can still hear the anger in it like cotton with a razor on the edge gliding on my skin.

"Umupo ka, RJ." Tatay commanded and I found myself following without protest.

Frankly, I was just glad they weren't kicking me out anymore.
