you look differently these days

your name carved into stone
millions of tears have dried upon
hundreds of hearts buried in the dirt
along with the death of yours.

i wish i held you a bit closer
whispered goodnight before you left
digest the last moment we spent together even
though last wasn't meant to be part of the sentence
in the first place.

i listen to the music you left me
cry for everything lost
pray you're in a better place
one that can protect you
not as poorly as this planet had.

hoping something
or someone
wherever you are
is holding you a bit tighter than i had ever
whispering goodnight's louder than i had tried
takes your precious time and watches the details closely
for they don't know when the last of it will come
just like i had woke this morning to news of your absence
not from the state
or from my mind
but your own body
left cold
without your warm soul.

i'm grateful for all you've accomplished, shared with nameless faces
you will be remembered for what you were
not what has been done

and these moments
the one's you have left in our palms for admiration

they will last on until we are one.
