lxix. THE SKY DOESN'T SHINE AS BRIGHT
EVER SINCE YOUR ROCKET LEFT FOR THE MOON.

stargazing on mars

sitting in craters bigger than the moon
the one you sit on
shining brighter than any twinkle of light waving above me
i wave when you kiss me goodnight
watch as the stars try to burn as beautiful as you
but they only last half as long
you swallow their corpses whole
grinning with their dust staining your teeth
they welcomed you with arms of trust
only for you to digest them to stay lit yourself
even up in the universe
far beyond us
you find a way
to stab at the hearts
and crevasses in spines
of one of the most beautiful things to ever exist

do you understand just how cruel you truly sound
when their screams of wanting
bury themselves in the void of your stomach

and they still reach for everything you
have long into the night of bellowed agony?

spit them out
into my hands
so i can craft them back together
make them happy again
over and over
leaving me to wonder
when you'll grow bored
and stop.

will you ever?
