Sleepless

Quarter to six in the morning, the sky was still dark, the air was stiff and cold, and you were sat in the living room wearing a t-shirt and a pair of jeans; you hoped you wouldn't disrupt any of your housemates, as they were all exhausted from acting. James, one of your fellow inhabitants, had only been asleep for four hours; Michael had been resting for a little over two; and Tom and Richard had been blissfully sleeping since ten o'clock the previous night.
On the other hand, you knew that Hugh would wake up at any minute when he realised that the bedroom beside his own, your bedroom, was closed off - as he had always mentioned that he had found the humming from your electrical fan to be relaxing.
As if on queue, there were footsteps plodding down the stairs, followed by five different sets of groans and exhausted mumbles.
"(Y/N)," came Hugh's voice, the nearest.
"She's probably not awake," complained James.
"Remind me why we're up again?" Asked Michael.
"Because I'm worried," answered Tom.
"As am I," Richard agreed. "Hey, (Y/N), you awake?"
"In the living room," you answered, somewhat wearily.
"We're coming in," Hugh whispered, followed by the familiar steps of all of your house mates' footsteps. "Why're you up so early?"
"Ah, y'know me..." you shrugged. "Insomniac and whatnot."
"Want us to call Colin?" James asked tiredly.
"Or we could call Hardy?" Suggested Michael.
"I could make you some coffee, if you want." Offered Tom.
"Or tea," Richard added. "If you'd prefer."
"Colin, Hardy and tea sounds good," you told them, watching as everyone except Richard sat down. "Thanks guys."
"We owe you," James mumbled. "You take care of us all the time."
---
Later that day, Tom and Michael had gone shopping, James and Richard had also gone shopping, but for very different things; while the former pair had gone out for the essentials, such as food, drinks, and items of the sort, the latter pair had gone in search of planks of wood, screws, and such, as they had been tasked with getting 'emergency' supplies. Naturally, having the other four away, it left you and Hugh alone, something neither of you had been for a while, or at least, neither of you had been home alone together; you loved Hugh, of course, just as you loved Tom, James, Richard and Michael, but the two of you never seemed to be alone. It was odd, as was expected, until the television got turned on, and you cuddled into his side.
"Hardy and Colin should be 'round soon," he eventually commented. "They said about ten."
"Why ten?" You asked curiously, letting out a gentle moan when he stroked your knotted hair.
"Well, Hardy has to travel here all the way from London, and Colin has to come down from there as well," Hugh explained, "I saw the news, and the ice has caused the motorways to close down over there."
"Shit!" You looked up at him with wide eyes. "Are our four gonna be alright out there?"
"Oh, they'll be fine," he reassured. "Our roads haven't yet been closed, and they've been salted, so there's no worry."
"Who was driving?" You asked, swallowing thickly.
"Tom and Richard," he replied. "Why?"
"I'm gonna text James and Michael," you told him. "Make sure they're all alright."
---
Tom let out a groan of disapproval when Michael's phone pinged, as it shut off the music that they had previously been listening to.
"It's (Y/N)," Michael said, looking at the text. "She wants to know if we're alright."
"Aw," Tom smiled but kept his eyes trained on the road. "(Y/N) certainly is a sweet one, isn't she?"
"She is," the ginger nodded. "Want me to say anything to her?"
"Yes," the other agreed. "Tell her I love her and that I hope her and Hugh are getting along."
"You love her?" Michael raised a brow and Tom looked at him once they had stopped at some traffic lights.
"Why wouldn't I?" Tom replied. "She's my friend. Don't you love her?"
"I do," Michael admitted. "I've known her since Year Seven, after all."
---
James felt his phone vibrate in his pocket as he walking around the shop with Richard, who had turned to look at him when he noticed that his house mate wasn't paying attention.
"Everything alright?" Richard asked.
"Yeah," James said. "(Y/N) texted, is all."
"Is she alright?" Immediately, Richard stood beside James and looked at the text, a sigh of relief leaving his lips when he had read it. "Such a sweet one, our (Y/N)."
"She is," James agreed. "Although she does scare me from time to time."
"How?" Richard chuckled, raising a brow.
"Well, because me and Michael have known her for so long, she knows exactly what buttons to push," James explained, "I'm scared of her because when she gets pissed off, she turns into a whole different person."
"Easy answer to that," Richard laughed. "Don't piss (Y/N) off."
---
When the four house mates returned, hands full of shopping bags galore, they couldn't help but to smile at the sight of you and Hugh cuddled up on the sofa, watching some murder documentary on the television.
"Morning," they greeted one by one before filing into the kitchen, you and Hugh joining them shortly after.
"Got everything?" You asked, stretching and chuckling when they all heard the clicks and cracks that came with it.
"Yeah," James and Michael answered.
"Although," Tom and Richard shared a look and the former continued, "The five of us are going out for drinks later."
"We are?" The other three raised a brow each.
"Yes," Tom glared at them to get the point through. "When Hardy and Colin get here, we're going to leave."
"Why?" You asked.
"Well, we figured you'd like some alone time with them," he said, clearly referring to the fact that he and Richard knew that the two outsiders had feelings for you. "And that it would do you some good, not having us loiter around."
"Damn," you chuckled. "Thanks, guys."
