( THE OTHER GIRL )by archiefics

Crushes. They came and went very quickly for many girls, you included. In about a total of one year, you probably had about five crushes. Looking back on some of them, you'd cringe. Ugh, why did I ever think he was cute? But some you smiled at, He's a good guy. I hope he's happy. Nevertheless, crushes we just that. Crushes. They never really worked out for you. You had only been in three successful relationships, but they had all ended because of different interests–school, sports, family. Or sometimes, the spark wasn't there anymore.

Regardless, crushes to you usually stayed crushes and never advanced into anything more. And you never expected this crush to go anywhere. Reggie Mantle. Captain of the football team, jock extraordinaire, and a ladies' man. Everyone is the school went through a Reggie phase and you figured that you were just late to the trend and it would fade with in a month. You and Reggie were acquaintances, not good friends, but not strangers. You thought that they feelings were just in passing.

Fast forward four months and your feelings towards him grew and you knew that this crush wasn't going anywhere. It was here to stay. Your friends were divided on the situation–two of your friends told you to stay away from him. He looked for trouble and a girl like you shouldn't be be put in that situation. Your other friends said to go for it. "What do you have to lose?" were Amanda's words. They told you to have fun and hook up and if there was something more, then it would work itself out.

But before you could even decided what you wanted to do with your newfound feelings for Reggie, he got a girlfriend. Just like that. In a blink of an eye. And his girlfriend was none other than Cheryl Blossom. Of course he would ask her out; She was gorgeous (and cheer captain). They were a power couple and they basically dominated the school. It was apparent to you that those two weren't going to break up anytime soon and you should stop fantasizing over him.

Too bad you can't turn your feelings off for him. It's still been two months into their relationship and Cheryl and Reggie were still strong just like your feelings for him. No matter what you did or your friends told you, you couldn't shake your feelings for Reggie. There was still a piece of you that held onto this idea of him dumping the captain of the Vixen to date another Vixen who was more charismatic, who was more friendly, who was you.

You walked into Vixen practice, fixing your shorts before spotting Cheryl twisting her cherry red hair around her finger as she smiled at her boyfriend who was chatting to her before both of their practices started. Your heart beat faster in your chest as you swallowed hard. Walking further into the gym as Veronica flashed a smile to you and you waved back to her quickly. In your peripheral vision, you saw Reggie peck Cheryl's lips and you could feel your jealous growing in your chest. "Y/N," a voice says from behind you and you could immediately recognize it as his. You turn around quickly, a small smile on your face. "Hey. Moose and I are starting a study group for Euro if you want in. It's a few people from our period, we're all studying for the midterm."

Once he said, that your heart fluttered with hope. He was including you in things. This was a step in the right direction. You were hopeful, but not too hopeful. "That'd be great, yeah," you say, nonchalantly. He smiles and tells you that he'll text you the details later. Walk away to Veronica and bite your bottom lip in excitement. "Reg just invited me for a study date with some other kids in Euro," you whisper excitedly to Veronica.

"Study group, Y/N. Not date," she corrects as you roll your eyes. "Hey, I'm tryna keep you out of trouble. He's still with Cheryl, remember?" she pokes your arm as you both sit on the floor to stretch before practice starts. "I've been on your side for awhile now, Y/N. I'm just saying you should get involved but not too involved."
