PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING THE STORY

THIS IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT, A FANFICTION. THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTOION OR ANY BOY BAND FOR THAT MATTER. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A 1D FANFIC, PLEASE LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO IMAGINE THESE BOYS AS ONE DIRECTION, BUT THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION. TIHS IS ABOUT AN IMAGINARY BAND CALLED "YOURS TRULY." THE ONLY CHARACTER WHO IS SLIGHTLY BASED OFF A ONE DIRECTION MEMBER IS FLYNN AND THAT IS PURLEY FOR DESCRIPTIVE DETAILS AND BASED ON LOOKS. NONE OF THEIR PERSONALITIES, QUALITIES, PHYSICAL TRAITS (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF FLYNN) ARE BASED OFF OF 1D. THANK YOU AND ENJOY!

“And here’s the nation’s number one hit single ‘fix me’ by everyone’s favorite boy band, Yours Truly!” The DJ said over the radio.  I groaned and tapped my hand on the steering wheel as the song began to play. Before their annoying, whiny voices could give me a bigger headache than I already had, I changed the station. It was the first day of my summer vacation, and I was not about to let that annoying band get in the way. I didn’t really get what they hype was all about; they weren’t even that talented. But everyone n the nation seemed to think otherwise. An indie song began to play on the radio after I switched stations and I instantly relaxed.

As I drove down the crooked road along the side of the mountain, I couldn’t help but feel overjoyed. A couple weeks ago, I had been selected to work at the town’s ranch resort and would be spending my entire summer there. It was a beautiful resort located just above our small town. There were horses, open land, rivers, a fire pit, a pool and spa, a small movie theater, and sixteen beautiful cabins. As an employee, it was my job to take care of the guests in one of the cabins. Each year, the owners hired twelve employees ranging from eighteen to thirty. The interview process for the job was grueling, and I was fortunate to have even been considered. I was only seventeen, but my father who was a very influential man was able to pull a few strings and I got the job. Four of the cabins were occupied by the employees, and the other twelve were for the guests. It was a quaint ranch.

The ranch officially started its summer operation tomorrow. Today was orientation for all the employees. We would unpack, get settled in our cabins, learn the lay of the land, and find our cabin assignments and get comfortable before the guests began arriving. Not everyone would be arriving tomorrow and spending the entire summer, but it was best for all the employees to get acquainted.

I had already stopped by earlier that morning and dropped all my things off. I had finished school a day earlier than my twelve year old sister and it was my responsibility to pick her up from school. My dad ran a large business an hour and a half outside of town, in Aspen, so I was always driving her to and fro. He worked long hours and wasn’t home often, but his job was able to pay for the countless bills, so neither of us complained.

I pulled into the school’s parking lot and Opal ran to the car, her backpack bouncing against her frail body. She slid into the passenger seat and flashed a toothy grin at me. “Like my new wig?” she asked eagerly. Today’s selection was interesting, lime green. It wasn’t necessarily my favorite, but she was a peculiar girl and if looking weird didn’t bother her then it didn’t bother me. She was used to staring. She had been for three years now ever since she was diagnosed with cancer.

“It’s different, but I like it.” I replied honestly, speeding out of the parking lot and toward the house. “Are you excited for your camp tomorrow?” I asked, changing the subject. She nodded eagerly and changed the radio back to the pop station. Another Yours Truly song was playing and I groaned while she simultaneously squealed. Just like everyone else across the globe, Opal was obsessed with the boy band. She worshipped the ground they walked on.

One of the reasons why I took the job at the ranch was to pay for the camp we were sending my sister to. My dad wasn’t keen on sending her, but we made an agreement to send her to the camp if I paid for half. It was a camp in Denver for kids with terminal diseases where they could have fun and be kids again. They did normal summer activities and didn’t have to worry about needles and doctors. It was a well needed break for Opal, and I was more than happy to pay for some of it. Plus with no kids at home, dad didn’t have to worry about coming home at a specific time. He could work until his heart was content. We pulled into the driveway and Opal gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before racing out of the car. “I won’t see you later so have fun at camp! I love you!” I shouted out the open car window to a retreating Opal. She waved back and disappeared into the house. I made sure she was safely inside before pulling the car back out and heading back to the ranch.

I was driving up the winding road on the mountainside when it happened. For some reason, the road was really congested today. People were probably leaving town to go on vacations. Summer in Breckenridge was our slow season, even though it was absolutely gorgeous here in the summer. It was our best kept secret. Everyone always came during the winter and spring for our snow season, but during the summer, the town was desolate. The town had about 4,000 people total, but during the summer, the population was reduced to about 2,000. Finally, the traffic began to clear up, and I sped up the mountain. I was eager to get back to the ranch; all the other employees should have arrived by now.

I didn’t even see it coming. I didn’t even see the deer leap out into the road or the car that was speeding on the opposite side dodge the deer and hit me instead. After that, all I saw was black.

“Dude slow down!” Caleb shouted from the passenger seat. Flynn ignored him and continued to speed down the mountain pass. Mason, Landon, and Damon were all squished in the back seat, singing along to the music which was blasting through the speakers. The boys were spending their summer on a two month break in the mountains in some small town none of them had ever heard of. Their manager had decided that they needed a break from all the adoring fans and paparazzi, so he sent them out to a small ranch. None of the boys were too keen on nature, and after unpacking their things at their cabin, they climbed back into their small rental car and drove back down to the town where they would stop and get some lunch.

“I wish we could’ve gone to some beach in Costa Rica or something. I don’t want to spend my freaking summer in some small town.” Landon grumbled. Flynn turned around to come back with some snarky comment when Caleb shrieked from the passenger seat. Flynn turned around just in time to see a deer surge out of the trees to their right.

“Shit!” Flynn shouted, swerving the car to the left. Right into another car. He pressed on the breaks, but it was too late. They had hit the other driver right by the driver’s side door. They scrambled out of the car and looked at the other driver. She was bleeding from the top of her head and lurched over the steering wheel, unconscious.

“Shit…”
