“Princess!” Damon exclaimed in the midst of my welcome. But that wasn’t the reason I had stopped talking entirely either. I was speechless. I was not expecting to see them here. I thought they were staying at some luxurious hotel, not a luxurious ranch. Damon was the only one who was out in the foyer, but that quickly changed. I heard footsteps bounding down the stairs and I was greeted with four other smiling, attractive faces.

“Iris! How are you feeling?” Caleb asked, assessing me after he gave me a bear hug and lifted me up off the floor. I was not expecting that kind of a welcome from him and I squirmed in his grasp. My lungs were sore after that hug and I put my hands up before Landon could give me a hug next. I began gulping air and fanning myself and the boys all took a step back from you. “Sorry…” Caleb muttered. “I kinda forgot you’re broken and all.”

“What are you guys doing here?” I wheezed.

“We told you before that we were spending our summer at some ranch here.” Mason replied, plopping onto one of the leather couches. “So, what is it that you were saying before you were so rudely interrupted?”

“Oh..um…” I tried to remember what I was saying when I first entered the cabin, but I was still at a loss for words. “I forgot.” I smiled nervously and a few of them chuckled. I tried going back in my memory, what was I supposed to remind them? “Oh! I remember. Dinner starts in two hours and lasts for an hour and a half. You don’t have to be there right on time, but the kitchen does close after dinner.”

            “Anything else?” Landon asked.

“Well, I’m going to be taking care of you guys while you’re staying in this cabin. So, if you need anything, I’m staying in the cabin next door, and I’m here 24/7. If you want to do any activities, just let me know and I’ll be arranging most of them for you. I’ll be the one taking you on your trail walks, horseback rides, or anything else outdoors-y. So, let me know if you need anything. I’m going over to my cabin now to get ready for dinner…so….yeah.” I turned on my heel sharply and bustled out of there as quickly as I could. In that process, I tripped over one of my feet and went flying onto the floor. I scrambled to hold onto something, anything that would save me from the embarrassment that was soon to ensue, but in the end, I fell onto my ass, arms flailing in the process. I probably looked like a fool.

The boys erupted in a fit of laughter and I glared at them. Before I could compose myself and hurry out the door, a hand extended out toward me. I looked up to see who it was and was met with a pair of two beautiful, electrifying blue eyes. He wordlessly lifted me onto my feet and before I turned around to leave, his lips parted. I leaned in, figuring he was going to say something when instead he coughed and averted his gaze. “Uh…you…uh…” his voice trailed off and I tilted my head. “You dropped something.” He mumbled, reaching down and handing me my keys. I pouted, hoping he was going to pull some “knight in shining armor,” comment. But before anything could be said about Flynn’s awkward statement, I yanked open the door and scurried outside. After I closed it, I leaned against the wall and sighed.

            Well that was sufficiently awkward.
