|| THIRD PERSON ||

Summer of 1955

"Elizabeth! Come quick, the new neighbors have arrived!"

Elizabeth Cooper, known around town as the absolute good girl Betty, sighed and placed her hard-bound diary beside her, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed and pushed herself up to her feet. It was twenty-second of June 1955, the scorching heat of the sun indicating that it was noon. She peered out her window to see a sleek black 1954 Hudson Hornet parked in the driveway of the house next door. She watched observantly as a dark-haired man stepped out of the driver's seat, wearing a brown suit and tie, followed by a lovely-looking woman who had her silky black hair twisted up into a bun. She wore a yellow sundress, her flowy skirt subtly swaying to the hot summer wind.

She's pretty. Betty thought to herself and watched as the elderly couple linked their arms together, standing in the middle of the lawn of their new house, eyes squinted as they stared at the house with awe. The previous owners of the house have left their home in good condition, leaving only a few parts of it to fix before they put up their house in the market. Of course, it was no surprise to everyone in the street when construction workers started working on the house about two months ago, changing a few portions of the house for the family that had bought the house.

The only thing they knew about the family that was moving in was that they were originally from Toledo and moved around for the father's business, and that they chose to settle down in Riverdale. Betty's parents have done some more digging on their new neighbors and found out that the couple had two children, although all other information remained unknown. Of course her parents would be ecstatic that they would have new neighbors, the town was in desperate need of new gossip.

The door to the backseat of the Impala swung open, and it didn't go unnoticed by Betty. A young girl with the same hair as her mother, only it was shorter and framed her youthful face in curls, jumped out of the car, joining her parents. The man had opened his arms wide and bent down to scoop his giggling daughter in his arms, twirling the young girl around, only causing the girl to erupt in a fit of laughter. Betty's heart warmed st the sight, a nice family was moving in next door.

Jughead was adamant of moving to Riverdale. When he overheard his parents talking about it just three months prior, he wasn't very pleased with it, considering that he has already made a name for himself back in New Jersey, where they lived for two years, the longest time they've spent in one city before moving to another.

Jughead was the center of attention in New Jersey, and most definitely in every other city his family moved into. He was a surfer, often seen soaking up in the beach when he wasn't in school. He discovered he had a talent in swimming months before moving to New Jersey, and upon seeing the beach he knew he had to get on those waves and eventually picked up surfing. He took very little professional help and learned on his own, spending just over two weeks learning the basics of surfing.

What made Jughead adamant about moving to Riverdale was that there was no beach in the small town. The closest beach to it was forty minutes outside town, and driving was out of the question considering he had no professional license yet and couldn't drive anywhere without his dad because he had just turned sixteen. And his dad was a busy man, so he can't always join Jughead to the beach. It was a silly reason for not wanting to settle down somewhere with your family, but to Jughead it was everything. He was so attached to his surfboard and to the salty breeze of the beach.
