Jughead Jones, age 7
Betty Cooper, age 6

"Come on, Juggie!"The young Betty Cooper giggled, extending her small hand out to Jughead Jones', grasping his hand as she led him through the maze of pre-schoolers who have crowded the halls of Riverdale Elementary. Jughead, who has been her best friend since birth, ran behind her, stumbling as he struggled to keep up with her pace.

"Geez, Betty, slow down!"Jughead whined as he and Betty emerged from the crowd, standing out side the doors leading out to the playground. The whole place was occupied—the playhouses, the swings, the slides, everything. "We're too late!"Betty dramaticized, leaning onto Jughead's chest. He has always been taller than her, whether it be just by one inch or by more. "Oh Romeo, this is the end of my death!"

Betty pretended to fall back onto Jughead, who's arms were wrapped around her to keep her from laughing. Jughead did his best not to laugh—they loved to play pretend and act out whatever scenes they saw on television or read on the many books they spent time reading together. Betty played dead, eyes shut closed. Jughead thought Betty was pretty, really pretty.

"Fear not, my Juliet! I have found a...a...kingdom for us!"Jughead spoke with slight hesitation, unsure whether he used the right words. Betty quickly rose to her feet, eyes wide open as she frantically looked around for the 'kingdom' Jughead was talking about. "Where, oh where, Romeo?"She asked, continuing the dialogue.

"There!"Jughead pointed to a tree house set right on top of the tallest and biggest tree in the lot, hidden slightly within the leaves. It seemed to be empty, so Jughead quickly led Betty to it, determined to claim it as their territory. He wasn't gonna let some creep take their spot.

Jughead let Betty climb the ladder up first—it was higher than it looked from afar, so maybe that's why kids never bothered to climb it at all. Betty and Jughead saw that as a good thing, at least they can have the whole place to themselves.

"Wow."Betty breathed out once both of them reached the top, entering the small treehouse. Yes, it was small, but it fit the two of them inside and honestly, it was too big for only the two of them. But of course, they didn't mind the extra space. "We call dibbs on this place."Jughead spoke up, pulling out a stone from inside his pocket. He had no idea how it got there, but he knew that it was mainly to protect Betty if ever someone came up to them and started hurting her. He could just throw the stone at the guy and run with Betty.

Using the stone, Jughead started to write to his name on the wall, just by one of the corners. He handed it to Betty once he was done, gesturing for her to write on the wall. "Isn't this vandalism?"Betty asked, looking up at him innocently and wide-eyed. Betty read that word twice in the books she's read and looked it up with Jughead on her mom's dictionary—to her, it meant destroying something by writing on it or messing it up.

"Well, no one comes up here."Jughead shrugged, looking at his writing proudly. "Besides, if someone did, they wouldn't mind."And so Betty took the stone, wrote her name underneath Jughead's, smiling. Jughead added a small plus sign in between, grinning widely.

"See? Betty and Jughead, you and me!"He said. "Nothing can ever keep us apart."Betty just stared up at him for a while, holding her pinky finger up. "Pinky promise?"She asked, pouting slightly. He's always had a soft spot for her, he'd do anything for her. Jughead didn't know what any of those meant, though. All he knew was that Betty Cooper was his best friend.
