She used to love him—she really did.

She has loved him since they were kids, since he came to her for help, unable to read in the same level as the other kids in their kindergarten class.

She has loved him when they were teens, adventurous and full of youth, curious about a lot of things and about what it was like to kiss somebody.

She loved him when they were sixteen, when he is now a football star and she is the perfect Northside girl, and they thought of themselves as the epitome of love.

Betty Cooper loved Archie Andrews in all those years when they were naive and the real world was just a stranger to them.

It all started when Southside High shut down and all the Southside Serpents transferred to Riverdale High.

"Welcome to Riverdale High!"Betty was assigned to mentor a group of four Serpents in the week that they would be transitioning into their new school, which was much different from their old one from what she has heard from those other students who gossip really loud. "I'm Betty Cooper, and Mr. Weatherbee assigned me to be your mentor for today—well, for as long as you're adjusting to this place. Basically I'm here to be some sort of guide for you guys, and we'll all go to the same classes together since your schedules have been synced with mine."

Betty couldn't help but get excited when she found out that southside teens will be transferring to their school; the place needed a change, anyway. Everything has been so boring in the northside, and Betty thinks that the Serpents are just what their side of town needs for it to be fun again.

"I'm Toni Topaz, and these are my friends Sweet Pea and Fangs."The pink-haired girl said, pointing to each of her friends as she introduced them. Betty smiled and stared at the three of them for a bit.

"Aren't you supposed to be a group of four? Mr. Weatherbee said that I'd be mentoring four students."

"Oh, yeah. Jughead's just a bit late, that's all."Toni replied, shrugging her shoulders. "It's not a big deal, really, since he's always late."

"Well, class starts in twenty minutes, and Riverdale High is really strict about attendance and tardiness. I wouldn't want for him to get detention on his first day."Betty said.

"He's on his way, but he probably stopped over at our old school. No offense, but he really hates this place. Makes him feel like he's nothing here, and he's really attached to the southside."Sweet Pea said.

"I understand, it's hard to let go of the things we're really attached to."Betty's thoughts drift off to her relationship with Archie, which lately hasn't felt like it really is a relationship anymore.

He barely speaks to her and always says he has football practice or some music jamming with his friends. He sets her aside whenever she says she wants them to hang out together some time. He doesn't pay attention to her, not anymore, at least. All Archie does is either push her to the sidelines, or push her away completely for a while.

"Hey, sorry I'm late."

The voice snaps Betty out of her trance, making her turn around to where the voice came from—and her jaw nearly dropped at the sight she beheld.
