You were drinking heavily.
It seemed like everything in your life was falling apart.
Your parents had died.
The rest of your family had abandoned you.
No one would take you in.
Everyone at school avoided you like the Black Plague.
Your friends wouldn’t even look you in the eye.
You felt alone.
To make things worse, you lost your job.
You had been evicted.
You were living out of your car.
Everything was just falling apart.
And you didn’t see the point in living anymore.
You got in your car and drove off.
A man appeared in your passenger seat and you screamed, swerving.
The man reached over and straightened the wheel.
“How did you get in here?” you asked, freaked out.
“I’m an angel,” he said.
“Oh, I get it. A drunken hallucination,” you said.
He stroked your face.
“No, I’m real,” he assured you.
“What do you want?” you asked.
“This isn’t the way to go,” he said, shaking his head.
“There’s no point in living anymore,” you replied.
“But there is! You have a future, a whole life ahead of you!” he tried to convince you.
“What good is it if I’ll always be alone?” you stammered, trying not to cry.
“I promise that you will never be alone,” he whispered.
You pulled over and he held out his arms, allowing you to cry into them.
You didn’t know why you were breaking down. You just knew you could trust him and you really needed someone.
“I will never leave you,” he said, hugging you tight.
“But-,” you began.
“Only you may see me, so you’ll always know I’m there,” he promised.
“What’s your name?” you asked, looking at him through tears.
He kissed the top of your head and smiled down at you.
“Lucifer.”
