Kissing the top of her head softly, Mo Yuan held her against him for a while. He was in no rush to have his say, and because time did not move on that rock, there was no pressure or urgency to get it over with either.
Instead he gently stroked her hair until she had expended her tears while he dwelt on her words. He found it absolutely remarkable that she had managed to hold off that man. She must be the very first woman to have ever done so, he thought to himself smiling. Not even Shao Wan could resist him in the end and she had made him work hundreds of years before she caved.
But having met her since her return, he had seen the love she still had for him. It was as strong as the day she died. And that had his mind turning back to Bai Qian. That she had held onto their love for so long was just as remarkable.
He had been in the Chaos for the same length of time, yet much of it, he had no memories, they came back to him slowly and painfully, until thousands of years had passed. When she did come back to his mind, the speed at which he worked to gather his soul sped up. But she had been alone and alive with her memories the entire time.
"What are you thinking?" she asked against him. Her face was still pressed against his chest, her eyes were closed but he had not changed at all. When he went silent like that, his mind was active.
Pulling her in closer, he took a deep breath. Then lowering his head against her, he opened up and for the first time, they really talked.
"I was just thinking how hard it must have been for you. You missed out on so much of our sons growth, at a time when a mother and childs bond grows stronger. I on the other hand, had his company for the entire time I was absent. You have grown so strong, yet you suffered so much for it, I cannot help but feel pride and reverence for your perseverance." he said softly.
Shaking her head slowly against him, her eyes saddened.
"During my time in the Orchid Lands, Gaogui showed me a little of the Chaos, and the agony he had gone through to protect you. It was a mere few seconds, but the pain I felt in my own soul was so terrifying, I can't even imagine how hard forty five thousand years of it, must have felt to you." she whispered sadly.
"It was hard. But our son kept me there, safe and protected the entire time. But you my dear, you had to go it alone. For this I am sorry I left you."
"You had no choice Mo Yuan. Without your sacrifice, we would have all joined you." she replied firmly.
"Well, I still find it remarkable that you managed to keep that man off you. We go back so far, him and I, I can very much imagine the frustration and anger he would have gone through at losing you. Though, for him, much of the hunt would have been to hurt me, rather than to gain you." he said.
And his brought her to a question she had never felt she was never in a position to ask about until then.
"We have talked about Shao Wan in the past. We also discussed the creation of the Demon Wars scroll that you and Honghui wrote together, however you we have not discussed your love for her. Now that she is back, do I have a need to worry Mo Yuan?" she asked.
"Back then, were were known as the Tight Five. We had all grown up together from a very young age, and the friendship that we had grew stronger as we aged. We were true brothers who took a blood oath to seal our friendship and to protect one another no matter what the cost."
"A blood oath?" she asked suddenly very interested in this story. One she knew nothing about.
"Looking back on it now, it seems so silly, but then we were all young with our heads full of fanciful ideas." he chuckled. "But each of us, slashed ourselves, and the blood we drew was poured into a goblet along with a small part of our essence. We all then took a sip. From that day forward, we were joined as blood brothers. We all made an oath, that no woman would come between us, and should we fall too deeply for one, the rest would interfere in order to save him from what we considered eternal shackles." he explained before moving on, though he chuckled again at her screwed up face.
